Role Description The Fact Checker role is a contract position based in New York, NY with a hybrid work arrangement, allowing a combination of on-site and work-from-home days. In this role, the Fact Checker verifies the accuracy of data, rankings, statistics, and claims used in reports, articles, and research outputs. Day-to-day tasks include cross-checking information against primary sources, databases, and survey results; reviewing drafts for factual consistency; and identifying discrepancies or gaps in data. The Fact Checker collaborates with researchers, editors, and writers to clarify findings, document sources, and ensure that all published materials adhere to strict accuracy and integrity standards. The role also involves maintaining detailed records of verification processes and contributing to continuous improvement of fact-checking workflows.

Qualifications

• Strong fact-checking skills with the ability to verify complex data, rankings, and public claims using reliable sources.
• Solid research capabilities, including experience working with surveys, databases, and quantitative or qualitative data.
• Clear and concise written communication skills, with the ability to document findings and explain discrepancies to cross-functional teams.
• Editorial and writing skills to review content for factual consistency, coherence, and adherence to style and quality standards.
• High attention to detail, critical thinking, and a commitment to accuracy and integrity in all work.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment, managing deadlines across multiple projects.
• Familiarity with media, market research, or data journalism is preferred; experience with statistical concepts or data analysis tools is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Data Science, Social Sciences, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
