Employment type: Full-time
Eligibility: U.S. citizenship required; must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal Public Trust background investigation
About the role
Zenius is hiring a data and automation engineer to build and operate data pipelines, document processing, and workflow tools for a Federal grants oversight program. You will work with a small engineering team and with grants and audit specialists to turn large volumes of Federal records and documents into reliable data that people can review and act on. The work runs in a secure Federal cloud environment, so traceability, testing, and security are part of the job from the start.
What you will do
Build and maintain data pipelines that ingest, validate, and reconcile data from public Federal sources and client systems.
Develop document processing services that extract structured data from PDFs and other unstructured documents.
Build AI-enabled features that include human review, source citation, and quality checks.
Build workflow tools, dashboards, and reports for program staff and client stakeholders.
Implement logging, monitoring, automated testing, and security controls, and support the system's security authorization.
Document your work and deliver in short increments with the engineering and program teams.
What you bring
A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field and four or more years of relevant experience, or eight or more years of relevant experience in place of a degree.
Production experience building and operating data pipelines and document processing services in a Federal or other regulated cloud environment.
Strong Python and SQL, with experience in pipeline orchestration tools and relational databases.
Experience building applications that use large language models or other AI services, with human review built in.
Sound engineering habits: version control, CI/CD, automated testing, code review, and clear written documentation.
U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a Federal Public Trust background investigation.
Nice to have
Experience in a FedRAMP environment such as Azure Government or AWS GovCloud, and familiarity with NIST SP 800-53 controls.
Section 508 accessible dashboard development.
Prior work on a Federal grants, audit, or financial management system.
A current or prior Federal suitability determination or security clearance.
