Job Description

• Lead physical substation design efforts for projects ranging from 69kV through 500kV+
• Develop complete physical design packages including general arrangement drawings, plans, elevations, sections, and equipment layouts
• Produce grounding plans, conduit layouts, cable trench designs, and station layouts
• Coordinate equipment placement and electrical clearances to meet utility and client standards
• Support design development from conceptual engineering through construction support
• Partner with Protection & Control, Civil, Structural, Transmission Line, and Project Management teams
• Review vendor drawings and integrate manufacturer requirements into final deliverables
• Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure design accuracy and compliance
• Support field activities including RFIs, drawing revisions, and issue resolution during construction
• Mentor junior designers and support technical development across project teams
• Maintain schedules and communicate design status across multiple active projects

The Successful Applicant

A successful Substation Physical Designer should have:

• 7+ years of physical substation design experience within utility, consulting, EPC, or power delivery environments
• Experience supporting substations from 69kV through 500kV+
• Strong understanding of substation equipment including transformers, breakers, disconnect switches, bus systems, grounding systems, and station layouts
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
• Ability to interpret utility standards, engineering drawings, and construction documentation
• Experience managing design deliverables independently across multiple projects
