Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Externship Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students the opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of a practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a dedication to providing exceptional service to animals and the people who love them. Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical examinations Create treatment plans and diagnostics Provide dentistry services Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures Manage the medical care of patients Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients Duration & Stipend Externship experiences typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Veterinary students of all class years are encouraged to participate. Students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
