City/State: Bronx, New York Grant Funded: Yes Department: Cancer Clinical Trials Office Bargaining Unit: NYSNA Work Shift: Day Work Days: MON-FRI Scheduled Hours: 8 AM-6:30 PM Scheduled Daily Hours: 10 HOURS The Nurse Practitioner has primary responsibility for providing clinical services to clinical research patients enrolled on cancer clinical research studies. This includes the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of disease and treatment of side effects. This is a grant‑funded position. The Nurse Practitioner also works closely with the physician leader, sub investigators/treating physicians and research team of the assigned disease research team. The Montefiore NP maintains standards of the practice for nursing as defined by the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics, Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice and Nursing's Social Policy Statement. The NP actualizes the vision, mission, values, balanced scorecard performance measures for Montefiore Medical Center. The NP participates in performance improvement/research activities, maintains professional practice standards and clinical expertise, and demonstrates leadership skills. The Nurse Practitioner will assess and provide care to a selected group of patients in collaboration with physicians. The NP will be responsible for carrying out the plan of care for his/her clinical patient panel. Essential Functions Providing clinical services to participants enrolled on early phase clinical research studies while adhering to clinical trial protocol requirements. This includes a complete health history and physical exam including the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of side effects and adverse events related to administration of investigational agents Provide clinical services and research support to research patients during the clinical hours--including the assessment and treatment of adverse events experienced while participating on a cancer clinical trial and providing supportive care. In collaboration with physicians and other health care providers, coordinates care of patients and evaluates plan of care and patient toward health goals and modifies plan of care. Appropriate care is provided as per standard of care and per collaborative practice agreement Plan of care is communicated to all members of the health care team. Collaborates with patient and/or involved others and/or agencies to formulate a plan of care Appropriate plan is agreed upon between NP and involved others. A therapeutic relationship is established with patient and/or involved others. Identifies patient and/or involved others in satisfaction/dissatisfaction with plan of care. If patient and/or involved others express dissatisfaction implements conflict resolution skills, and escalates issues with plan of care. Communicates effectively with involved others and members of the research and health team. Demonstrates respect for cultural diversity with patients and others in the medical team. Establishes collaborative and collegial relationships with health care members. Communicates plan of care to its assigned patients and involved others. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures and tests with the scope of privileges Appropriate orders and communications are made. Develops and analyzes differential diagnoses based on clinical and laboratory data. Communicates effectively with members of the health care team. Maintains communication with the interdisciplinary team through frequent interactions and staff conferences Prescribes medications and educates the patient and/or involved others about the drug regimen, interactions and side effects. Demonstrates leadership skills in the coordination and delivery of patient care Coordinates an interdisciplinary of care. Assures 100% of patient panel have a documented plan of care. Delegates care of the patient to team members consistent with the capabilities and responsibilities of caregiver A minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner, including at least three (3) years practicing in oncology required; experience in malignant hematology is preferred Preferred experience with grants and treatment‑related clinical trials involving human subjects ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Certification preferred AOCNP (Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner) preferred. Qualifications 4-6 years of practice as a Nurse Practitioner Required 3 years of prior oncology/malignant hematology experience required and experience with grants and treatment clinical research trials preferred. Demonstrated effectiveness in clinical oncology setting and ability to provide care for participants involved in research activities while maintaining compliance with federal regulations, research standards and clinical research protocols.
