Role Overview

Under general direction, the Controls Service Technician 5 is responsible for the service and repair, design, configuration, and operation of complete HVAC building control systems and other low-voltage control sub-systems. This role is accountable for quality, timeliness, and efficiency while developing complex software programs, commissioning systems, and solving operational issues. You will also prepare detailed information and submittals that support customer, consultant, sales, service, and subcontractor understanding of system design and operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, configure, service, and troubleshoot technically complex building control systems at customer facilities.
• Create flow diagrams, sequences of operation, bills of material, network layouts, and electrical schematics as needed for service, repair, or installation work.
• Develop, test, and adjust software programs required to operate systems according to customer facility requirements.
• Coordinate drawings, equipment schedules, and submittals to support service execution and project documentation.
• Load and commission system-level and network-level controllers, then verify complete system functionality.
• Troubleshoot system and field issues with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
• Prepare field change information for as-built drawings and software updates.
• Keep management, JCI contractors, and customers informed of job progress, risks, and open issues.
• Support site-specific training for owners and operators on the total building control system.
• Participate in release meetings with sales and service operations and perform value engineering where appropriate.
• Provide work direction to Service Controls Technician I, Senior I, and Senior II Controls Technicians when assigned.
• Follow all safety standards with a high degree of regard for employee and subcontractor safety.

• Win as one team by sharing field change information, supporting junior technicians when needed, and collaborating across trades and functions.
• Use technical drawings, control theory, and building automation knowledge to translate complex systems into practical service actions.
• Build accurate submittals and documentation so design intent, software logic, and as-built changes remain clear and usable.
• Apply a customer-focused approach that balances cost effectiveness, reliable performance, and long-term system operation.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of experience with programming, installing, and/or commissioning controls systems, including system-level controllers.
• MUST BE PROFICIENT WITH LON (Local Operating Networks)
• Demonstrated knowledge of the construction, service mechanical, electrical, or HVAC service industry.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of mechanical drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems, and other building subsystems.
• Demonstrated experience integrating low-voltage building sub-systems using industry protocols such as Modbus, LON, and BACnet.
• Advanced computer skills, particularly with computer-related drafting tools such as Visio.
• Ability to explain technical information to a non-technical audience.
• Must have valid driver's license.

Nice to Have

• Bachelor's degree in engineering.
• Associate degree in a related technical field with seven years of relevant work experience.
• Understanding of IP networking for building automation systems.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $38.75 - $53.32 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package.
