Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Float Pool Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: All travelers must take and pass a cardiac rhythm exam. A Registered Nurse with ACLS certification should easily be able to pass this exam. Description: Unit consists of multiple beds in various configurations. Most frequent units include a total of 36 and 29 beds among assigned areas. Nurse-to-patient ratios are mainly 1:5-6 for both days and nights. Occasionally, there may be up to 7 patients toward the end of a shift, depending on patient acuity. Common diagnoses include Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Cardiac Catheterization, Chest Pain, Pneumonia, Chronic Renal Disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Orthopedic cases, and Oncology patients. Permanent staff administer chemotherapy. No requirement to titrate drips, but common drips include cardiac medications. There is a charge nurse present who does not take patients during the day shift. During the night shift, the charge nurse does take on patient assignments. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are available to assist in patient care tasks. Respiratory therapy is present to manage CPAP and BiPAP for patients. Registered Nurses are responsible for reading and interpreting telemetry strips with monitor tech support. Shifts are from 7 AM to 7 PM. Travelers must work every other weekend, covering both Saturday and Sunday shifts. There is a holiday rotation that includes travelers among permanent staff. Travelers report to a designated coordinator prior to shift starts for their assignments. Assigned patients will be basic telemetry cases within the Registered Nurse's scope of practice. Dress code requirements include wearing royal blue scrubs. Orientation consists of 1-2 shifts with a preceptor on the unit.
