Senior Accountant
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team and play a key role in managing project-based accounting and day-to-day financial operations. The ideal candidate will have strong full-cycle accounting experience, a solid understanding of cost accounting and project accounting, and the ability to work effectively in a project-driven environment.
Candidates with experience in construction, utilities, energy, engineering, infrastructure, or other project-based industries are strongly preferred. We are also open to candidates coming from the public sector who have approximately 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
This position will also provide leadership and oversight to a small Accounts Payable team, making prior mentoring, supervisory, or management experience highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle accounting activities, including general ledger, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Perform project-based accounting and monitor financial activity across multiple projects.
• Analyze project costs, budgets, variances, and financial performance.
• Apply cost accounting principles to accurately track and allocate project expenses.
• Review project expenditures and ensure costs are properly classified and recorded.
• Prepare and analyze financial reports related to projects, operations, and overall company performance.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Perform account and balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
• Ensure accounting activities comply with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
• Review accounts payable activity and provide oversight, guidance, and support to two AP team members.
• Mentor, train, and develop AP staff while helping ensure accurate and timely invoice and payment processing.
• Collaborate with project managers, operations, procurement, AP, and other departments to resolve accounting and project-cost issues.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and financial controls.
• Assist with audits and provide supporting documentation as needed.
• Perform other accounting and financial analysis duties as required.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience; additional experience is welcome.
• Strong full-cycle accounting experience.
• Demonstrated experience with project-based accounting and cost accounting.
• Experience with general ledger, reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and month-end close.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in construction, utilities, energy, engineering, infrastructure, or another project-based industry.
• Strong NetSuite experience is strongly preferred.
• Previous experience mentoring, supervising, or managing accounting or AP personnel.
• Experience overseeing an Accounts Payable function.
• Experience with project costing, job costing, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Public-sector accounting experience is also welcomed, particularly for candidates with 3–5 years of relevant experience.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional who can independently manage complex accounting responsibilities while also providing leadership to the AP team. They should be comfortable working with project costs, analyzing financial information, partnering with operational teams, and identifying opportunities to improve processes.
A background in construction, utilities, or energy would be particularly valuable, but candidates with strong project-based accounting experience from other industries will also be considered.
