Senior Clerk

RESIDENCY

Candidates must have been legal residents of the following jurisdiction(s) for at least four months immediately preceding the date of the application: Livingston County, or One of the following Counties: Allegany, Genesee, Monroe, Ontario, Steuben or Wyoming

APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS

In order for an application to be approved, the applicant must clearly show the training, education, experience, and/or licensure/certification stated in the Typical Qualifications. All qualifying information must appear on the application form. No credit will be given for a Work Experience description that is unclear. The work involves responsibility for the performance of moderately difficult clerical duties. Employees generally follow a prescribed routine in the performance of moderately difficult financial record keeping duties. Unusual problems or situations not previously encountered are referred to supervisors. Specific instructions may be given for new or unusual assignments. The work differs from that of a Senior Account Clerk in that this position does not classify expenditures, prepare accounts payables, record payments for accounts receivables, or maintain and review financial records. Direct supervision may be exercised over the work of one or more clerical employees. The work is performed under general supervision of the assigned supervisor, permitting the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out details of the work. In the County service, this employee is primarily involved in overseeing a complex clerical procedure which may not involve steady or recurring supervisory responsibilities. A Senior Clerk does related work as assigned. Assigns work, reviews and records work done, and instructs new employees in specialized clerical work of a unit; Sets up time schedules and may be responsible for discipline in a unit; Conducts routine correspondence on matters where policies and procedures are well defined; Checks reports and records for clerical accuracy, completeness, and proper extension; Collects and compiles statistics and other related information; Processes checks, codes and files requisitions, claims, vouchers, bills, and receipts; Answers telephone and gives out general information or relieves at switchboard; Collects fees and accounts for monies received; Issues and records applications, licenses, and permits; Adheres to departmental customer service standards; May ensure that the customer service standards are adhered to by all staff within the assigned span of control; May assist the public with the completion of applications, licenses, and permits; May respond to and analyzes customer complaints; May determine appropriate corrective measures and ensures follow-through; Processes, sorts, indexes, records, and files a variety of control records, and reports; Occasionally operates typewriter, computer keyboard, copying equipment, calculating or other office machines; Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports; and Performs other related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualification Option # 1 Training/Education Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma. General experience Two years of full-time, paid experience in a clerical position. Supervisory experience N.A. License/Certification None required. Other requirements N.A. Part-time service will be given prorated credit toward experience requirements.

PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT NOTICE

An individual who receives a provisional appointment must take the examination for the position title on the next occasion it is offered. In order to be eligible for a permanent appointment to the position, the provisional appointee must pass the exam and be ranked 1, 2, 3, or be tied in score with the individual ranked number 3 of those who are willing to accept appointment to the position. It should be understood that even if the provisional appointee is eligible for appointment, the employer may choose another candidate to fill the position on a permanent basis.
