Supplier Quality Engineer

Description Design and maintain standards expertise, policies, procedures, and manuals for Supplier Quality on the determination of new supply sources, supplier quality relations, standardization of measurements, and acceptable criteria of materials. Compile supplier performance KPI metrics and participate in supplier scorecard development. Ensure suppliers meet requirements. Develop supplier to meet these requirements as needed. Support the Sourcing team in the selection and quality of potential suppliers and support NPD (New Product Development) projects. Interface with personnel from multiple plants to resolve chronic or major supplier issues and verify that suppliers understand process/product requirements. Implement and maintain quality improvement and auditing systems with suppliers focusing on process controls, quality control, quality management, and quality systems. Review engineering specifications and drawings to determine suppliers’ abilities to meet parameters and review new and modified product designs from a material standpoint, advising modifications when necessary. Review and approve suppliers’ PPAPs and audit deliverables including control plans, capability studies, part layouts, Gage R&R, PFEMA, supporting or leading project management efforts regarding supplier changes. Involve suppliers, internal resources, and plant personnel to drive containment and closed‑loop closure of significant quality issues, ensuring that supplier quality issues are resolved using appropriate problem‑solving methodologies such as root cause, 8D, and decision matrices. Assist multiple plants on third‑party audits regarding supplier qualifications and performance. Assist Purchasing and Customer Service to expedite products from suppliers in urgent situations. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements BS degree in Engineering related field. Have 5+ years demonstrated quality systems knowledge and experience. Ability to travel: expectation 50% up to 75%. Broad knowledge of manufacturing. Capable of summarizing test data and reporting for external customers. Proficiency with problem‑solving tools such as KT, 8D, etc. Familiarity with advanced quality planning, including AIAG Advanced Quality Planning and Control Plan, FMEAs, PPAPs, MSA, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) standards. Experience using Minitab or other statistical tools. Strong self‑motivation and communication skills. Strong commitment to customer satisfaction. Ability to think outside the box and suggest or implement continuous improvement ideas. Strong analytical thinking. Good level of interpersonal relationships, interface with foreign personnel. Capable of performing successfully in a matrix organization and leading complex efforts on behalf of Quality leadership across functions. Licenses/Certificates Six Sigma Green or Black Belt, or Certified Quality Engineer preferred. Technology/Equipment Previous experience as an auditor for ISO 9001, TS 16949, or VDA Quality System is required.
