Position: Community Development Director Location: San Marcos, TX Job ID: 26-20 # of Openings: 1 Status: Regular Full Time Schedule: Monday‑Friday; 8 AM‑5 PM Salary: $74,000‑$83,000 / Annually (commensurate with experience & education) Reports To: Executive Director Date Posted: May 4 2026 MISSION Helping Central Texas improve economic self‑reliance through a wide range of services and community partnerships. STRATEGIC FUNCTION To develop and manage a process to re‑grant St. David’s Foundation resources through a community‑directed and participatory process that reflects the needs, voices, and priorities of communities with the greatest health needs. Secondarily, to begin the work of establishing a process by which CAI can develop a formal fund development program to benefit all CAI programs. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Grantmaking Process Development & Management Design and implement a participatory grantmaking framework that aligns with community needs and priorities. Develop and oversee application, selection, and reporting processes that emphasize equity, transparency, and community engagement. Cultivate relationships with community stakeholders, mass organizations, and funding partners to inform and strengthen the grantmaking strategy. Establish procedures and tools for evaluating the program’s effectiveness. Monitor program effectiveness, ensuring continuous improvement and impact measurement. Facilitate advisory groups and community decision‑making bodies to ensure meaningful participation in funding decisions. Provide regular reports and updates on grant distribution, impact and lessons learned. Strategic Planning & Program Development Align grantmaking activities with the mission, vision, and strategic plan of CAI. Establish goals, objectives, tasks, and timelines to achieve program success. Ensure adherence to best practices in community‑based charity and participatory grantmaking. Collaboration, Community Engagement & Reporting Serve as a liaison between CAI, St. David’s Foundation, and community partners to ensure alignment and shared goals. Provide technical assistance, capacity‑building support, and strategic guidance to funded organizations. Represent CAI in community meetings, conferences, and sector‑wide collaborations related to equitable grantmaking and fund development. Provide relevant information, reports, and recommendations to the Executive Director and Board of Directors as needed. Work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure program alignment and efficiency. Implement policies set forth by the Board of Directors and support strategic decision‑making. Fund Development Strategy Conduct an initial assessment to identify opportunities for creating a sustainable fund development program for CAI. Collaborate with leadership and key stakeholders to design a strategic plan for revenue diversification and philanthropic partnerships. Support the development of funding proposals, donor engagement strategies, and long‑term sustainability planning. Coordinate with leadership and program staff to align grant writing activities with overall fund development and sustainability goals. Grant‑Writing & Proposal Development Lead and support grant writing efforts to secure public and private funding aligned with CAI’s mission and strategic priorities. Identify, research, and assess grant opportunities in collaboration with program leadership and the Executive Director. Draft, coordinate, and submit high‑quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and required attachments. Collaborate with internal teams to gather program narratives, budgets, outcomes, and supporting documentation. Ensure grant proposals meet funder guidelines, deadlines, and compliance requirements. Support post‑award activities related to grant reporting, renewals, and amendments, as needed. Maintain organized grant records and contribute to continuous improvement of grant writing processes. REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Master’s degree in public administration, nonprofit management, or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of experience in grantmaking or nonprofit management. Strong understanding of participatory grantmaking and community‑led funding models. Experience working with diverse communities, particularly those experiencing health and economic disparities. Excellent leadership, project management, and strategic planning skills. Bilingual in English and Spanish (ability to speak and read in both languages). Required Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., nonprofit management, public administration, social work, or related area). Minimum of 5 years of experience in grantmaking, nonprofit leadership, grant writing, or community development. Demonstrated experience in fund development, including donor relations, and/or grant writing. Strong project management skills, with the ability to design, implement, and evaluate complex programs. Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with a commitment to community engagement and collaboration. Experience collaborating with local partners and outside funders. Strong computer and communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to work on‑site (San Marcos, Texas). Access to a reliable vehicle; willingness to travel to target areas in the community. Physical Requirements None. Other Requirements Valid Texas Driver’s License – Class C.
