*Afternoon Nanny*

Start Date: ASAP-ish, but the right person matters more than the date

Hours:

• 2:30 - 5:30 pm, Monday - Friday,
• Ideally seeking someone with the flexibility to increase to full-time hours during select summer and holiday breaks.

Hourly Rate: $28-35/hr DOE

Children: 6 & 2-year-old

Paid Vacation:

• 1 week family choice
• 1 week nanny choice
• 3 sick or personal days
• All Major holidays

WHO/WHAT:  If your idea of a good afternoon involves school pickup, snacks on the go, a playground you haven’t tried yet, library books in the backseat, and occasionally arriving home with tired kids and absolutely no idea where all the dirt came from…this family might be speaking your language.

This Squirrel Hill family is looking for a nanny for their two children, ages six and two, Monday–Friday from approximately 2:30–5:30 PM. Their six-year-old is in school, their two-year-old is in daycare, and they’re looking for someone who can swoop in for the afternoon shift—handle pickups and then make those few hours before dinner genuinely fun.

And this family is BIG on getting out of the house.

They don’t want their nanny to feel like every afternoon needs to happen inside the same four walls. Go find a playground. Wander the library. Check out a museum. Pack a snack and head outside. On a beautiful day, they’d much rather hear that you spent the afternoon exploring somewhere new than that everyone stayed home because it was easier.

Of course, not every Tuesday needs to become a grand Pittsburgh adventure. Some afternoons will mean coming home, playing in the backyard, pulling out an art project, reading books, or letting everyone decompress after a long day. They’re simply looking for someone who genuinely enjoys being with kids and has the energy and initiative to make the most of the time you have together.

Most weeks, this is a wonderfully manageable 15-ish hour/week role. But here’s where it gets a little different: approximately 6–10 weeks throughout the year, the kids will be off school or daycare for holidays, summer breaks, or other scheduled closures while Dad is working. During those weeks, the family would love for their nanny to have the flexibility to increase to closer to full-time hours. Think summer adventures, zoo days, museums, parks, splash pads, library trips, picnics, and all the things that are much more fun than spending an entire school break at home. The family can lean on grandparents when necessary, so they understand if you can’t accommodate every single additional hour, but someone who likes the idea of flexing up during those busier weeks would be an especially great fit.

The good news? These shouldn’t be surprise schedule changes. Dad’s work schedule is unusual, but it is generally known well in advance—often months ahead. The family expects to give their nanny plenty of notice about the weeks when additional hours will be available so everyone can plan accordingly. This family is looking for a nanny who can become a consistent, trusted part of their children’s afternoons. Someone who can walk into pickup with a smile, hear “Can we go somewhere today?” and be the kind of person who usually thinks, Absolutely. Let’s figure out where.

THE IDEAL NANNY IS... AN AFTERNOON ADVENTURE PERSON. You genuinely like getting kids out into the world. Three hours with a six-year-old and two-year-old doesn’t feel like time you need to “fill”—you already have ideas.

You’re also dependable, warm, engaged, and confident enough to take initiative without needing parents to map out every afternoon for you. You understand that sometimes the best afternoons include throwing rocks into a creek or coming home to make a blanket fort. You can handle the logistics of pickups, snacks, activities, and getting everyone home safely—and you actually enjoy the little bit of chaos that comes with taking kids places.

Most importantly, you’re looking for a family you can build a relationship with. They want their kids to have someone they’re genuinely excited to see pull up at 2:30—and someone who is equally excited to see them.

Requirements and Benefits

• Nanny must have a driver's license, vehicle, and a clean driving record

• Nanny MUST have previous nanny experience for a minimum of 2 years.
