Surgical Pathologist - Anatomic Pathology

Per Diem Pathologist's Assistant – Atrius Health Under the general supervision of a Pathologist, utilizes specialized training to perform complex clinical laboratory procedures that would otherwise be performed by a Pathologist. Responsible for grossing and dissecting a wide variety of surgical pathology specimens ranging from biopsies to complex specimens. In collaboration with the pathologist, selects appropriate diagnostic sections for histologic processing. Primary Responsibilities Conduct gross examination of human tissue surgical specimens. Perform appropriate specimen accessioning, describe gross anatomic features via dictation, and dissect surgical specimens. In collaboration with the pathologist, select appropriate diagnostic sections for histologic processing and prepare tissue utilizing proper histologic procedures. When necessary, review cases with a pathologist upon sign‑out and consult with co‑workers and histology staff as needed. Participate in quality assurance initiatives and contribute new ideas to improve laboratory operations. Participate in projects as assigned. Maintain detailed records of all specimen dissections and dictations. Assist in the compilation of reports for surgical pathology. Label and store gross tissue specimens. Properly maintain equipment and ensure cleanliness of the surgical pathology suite. Refer to training checklists and competency assessments for additional accountabilities; during downtime, provide assistance to specimen processing as needed. Adhere to all laboratory policies and procedures, including compliance with HIPAA, CQI, OSHA, and accreditation guidelines. Review policy and procedure manuals annually. Perform all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local agencies, company policies, procedures, and CAP. Perform other duties as needed. Required Qualifications Graduate of a NAACLS approved educational training program or a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in a biological or allied health discipline. 3+ years of experience as a Pathologist's Assistant under direct supervision of a pathologist. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in pathology. Knowledge of histologic procedures. Extensive knowledge of the basic sciences, especially anatomy, surgical pathology and medical terminology. Proficiency in the use of medical and surgical instruments and equipment. Proven excellent dissection technical skills. Proven ability to summarize complex clinical data. Proven ability to work independently. Demonstrated professional attitude that earns and maintains trust of associates. Demonstrated role‑model qualities: flexibility, objectivity, adaptability. Demonstrated use of solid professional judgment. Compensation & Benefits Hourly pay ranges from $44.09 to $78.70 based on full‑time employment.
