$29.00–$43.00/hour (DOE) About The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Job Description Commercial HVAC/Refrigeration Service Technician Location: Newport News, VA | Hampton Roads Job Type: Full-Time | On-Site/Field Service Pay Range: $29.00–$43.00/hour (DOE) About The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC/Refrigeration Service Technician to support customers throughout the Newport News and Hampton Roads area. This is a combined HVAC/R service position. The technician will primarily service commercial refrigeration equipment, including reach-in coolers/freezers and walk-in coolers/freezers, while also performing commercial HVAC service and repair. Some rack refrigeration work may be available, but rack experience is not required and will represent a limited portion of the workload. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of commercial HVAC/R experience, with 10+ years highly valued, and is comfortable troubleshooting both refrigeration and HVAC equipment independently. Key Responsibilities Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial refrigeration and HVAC systems Service commercial refrigeration equipment including: Reach-in coolers and freezers Walk-in coolers and freezers Commercial refrigeration systems and controls Limited rack refrigeration systems Troubleshoot and repair commercial HVAC equipment and associated controls Diagnose electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and controls-related failures Perform preventative maintenance and equipment inspections Test components using appropriate diagnostic instruments Repair or replace compressors, motors, controls, electrical components, and other defective parts Verify proper equipment operation following repairs Maintain accurate service documentation Communicate professionally with customers, dispatch, and service leadership Maintain safe work practices and comply with OSHA and company requirements Qualifications Minimum 5 years of commercial HVAC/R service experience required 10+ years of HVAC/R experience highly preferred Strong commercial refrigeration troubleshooting and repair experience Experience servicing walk-in and reach-in refrigeration equipment Commercial HVAC service experience required EPA Universal Certification required Rack refrigeration experience preferred but not required Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting abilities Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Strong communication and customer service skills Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record Ideal Background We're particularly interested in technicians who have worked across both commercial refrigeration and HVAC service rather than specializing exclusively in one area.
