Position Overview At Curtiss Wright, engineers make the impossible a reality. We are seeking a Weld Engineer to join our team in Pittsburgh to mentor and engage with fellow engineers in creating equipment and products that fit our mission of durable, high‑performance pumps and equipment. Location: Pittsburgh, PA – Cheswick suburbs Salary range: $85,000 – $125,000 per year (general guideline). Responsibilities Determine appropriate welding techniques and procedures for applications and qualifications supporting product design (EMD). Generate weld procedure and welder qualification records. Work effectively in a manufacturing environment using arc welding processes (GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, SAW, FCAW, PTAW) to produce high‑quality welds. Apply welding metallurgy knowledge to resolve complex welding issues and interpret material specifications. Identify, evaluate and resolve non‑routine welding engineering problems related to nontraditional manufacturing and repair work. Maintain a growth mindset, proactively solving new and challenging welding engineering challenges. Communicate clearly across all levels of engineering and customer organizations, verbally and in written correspondence. Provide technical support and direction to skilled labor force and Weld Development Lab technicians. Identify and improve welding processes and techniques, develop material joining work plans, and detail schedules and resource requirements. Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineering counterparts to resolve joining issues, and support engineering, manufacturing, and program management meetings. Assist in reviewing supplier qualifications, procedures, and provide support for audits. Lead and mentor other engineers in expertise areas to foster growth and continual improvement. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology (or equivalent). Degrees in Metallurgy or Materials Science with Welding experience are considered; advanced degrees desired. 6+ years of related experience in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of arc welding processes such as GTAW, FCAW, SAW (preferred). Experience with GMAW, SMAW, PTAW is acceptable. Experience with ASME Section III, ASME Section IX, NAVSEA, or Tech Pub welding codes. Experience working with carbon, alloy, stainless steels; nickel and copper‑based alloys; and dissimilar metal welding. Prior experience as a Welding Engineer, Materials Engineer, or Manufacturing Engineer. Effective communication and organizational skills for collaborating with engineering and operations, and for documentation of processes and procedures. U.S. citizenship required; must be able to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance.
