Job Description Starting Date: Aug 12, 2026 Position Title: ASD Program Consultant FSLA: Exempt Reports To: Director of Special Education-Pathway School Updated: 04/20/2026 Salary/Benefits: Per the LIPSA Contract Schedule: 10-month Position Summary The ASD Program Consultant provides direct support and consultation for our Livingston ESA center‑based programs located at Pathway School. This position is pivotal in supporting special education teachers, students, and families in the implementation of evidence‑based strategies to improve outcomes for students on the Autism Spectrum. Supports START and evidence‑based initiatives by providing training, coaching, and other support as requested to ensure implementation fidelity. Provides enthusiasm and flexibility to consult with educational personnel on behalf of students. Supports students with complex communication needs, including familiarity with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) supports. Participates regularly on teams to resolve problems and analyze student‑level data for students demonstrating learning and/or behavioral challenges. Assists general and special education staff in supporting students in their least restrictive environment (LRE). Assists in referrals of students to agencies and specialists in the community. Participates in professional learning opportunities to stay current with research‑based practices. Represents Livingston Educational Autism Network locally. Supports students and staff through school‑based transitions. Implements and monitors peer‑to‑peer programs within the local district. Education/Experience Master's degree in education or a related field. Minimum of three years satisfactory teaching experience, or at least five years implementing research‑based strategies for students on the Autism spectrum. Training in START, Instructional Consultation Teams, or similar models preferred. Training in one or more START modules preferred. Strong knowledge working with individuals with Autism. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Michigan teaching certificate with special education endorsement. Teacher‑consultant eligibility preferred. Candidates with related certification and a minimum of five years working with students with Autism will also be considered. Non‑teacher certification candidates must meet Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs certification requirements and any additional approval requirements. Other Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required Strong verbal communication skills. Confidentiality when exposed to sensitive information. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and demonstrate flexibility (minimum 1‑year of experience). Preferred Knowledge of school districts and community. Experience with Head Start/Great Start Readiness Program families. CPR certification. Language Skills Ability to read simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to customers, clients, and colleagues. Reasoning Ability Application of common sense to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions; deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Physical Demands Regularly required to sit, use hands, talk, and hear; occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds. Work Environment Noise level is usually loud and is an acceptable standard for this environment. The employee is directly responsible for student safety, work output, and well‑being. The employee must remain free of alcohol or non‑prescribed controlled substances in the workplace.
