Job Summary / Purpose The Mine Engineer will provide short-range plans, survey support, and drill & blast support to achieve and optimize the mine’s production targets safely and efficiently. Job Scope / Dimensions They will provide short-range mine plans to achieve and optimize the mine’s production targets. They will maintain and analyze data from the site’s technology systems. They will provide survey support for pit operations. They will support drill and blast operations through blast pattern design and sequencing. Key Tasks And Responsibilities Ensure safe work systems/procedures are always practiced and adhered to in accordance with all health, safety, environmental and quality (HSEQ) standards. Maintain exemplary standard of housekeeping at all times, safe work, incident/accident reporting & active involvement in safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment. Abide by and proactively comply with Company policies, procedures, guidelines, and systems, as well as all relevant legislation. Create short range mine plans (Monthly, Quarterly, Yearly) that correlates with the mines mid-to-long range mine plans. Support drill and blast operations with blast pattern designs by using MinePlan3D, schedule blast sequencing, and conduct monthly drill and blast meetings. Also track and record drilling data to assess KPIs. Analyze and report pit production data and KPIs. Coordinate engineering activities associated with the optimization of mining operations and ore utilization. Engineer maintains and ensures compliance with mine plans which represent short term ( Lays out and assists mine operations in positioning excavation benches and access roads. Provide survey control for pit operation (Daily Grade, Crest, Toe, Ramps). Assist in monthly pit flights utilizing drone technology. Support mining related capital projects. Maintain the site’s technology systems and infrastructure, including vendor contact and support, numerous GPS systems, fleet management systems and in-pit WiFi. Promote and adhere to Company environmental and sustainability policies. Plans and tracks storage of excavated soil and reclamation activities. Assist in environmental submittals required by the Montana DEQ. Responsible for bi-yearly ore stockpile inventory surveys and reports.Participates in corporate mine planning team reviews and audits as required. Other duties as assigned. Education And Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in minerals/mining engineering or other technical discipline. The position requires 1 to 5 years of experience in a related industrial field. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Other Characteristics Organizational skills will be necessary for organizing mine activities, scheduling and conducting meetings. Analytical and statistical skills are needed to evaluate and analyze data, develop mine models, and oversee ore control. Computer skills are required to manage and utilize data management and mine planning software (MinePlan3D) packages and ensure best practice mine planning and development. Interpersonal skills are necessary in order to work with both internal and external personnel without major conflicts and maintain teamwork at the company’s locations. Leadership skills are needed to ensure that the mine employees work toward common corporate/location goals and objectives. Administrative skills are required to manage paperwork, meet reporting requirements, oversee the management of various systems, and ensure that employees have the resources needed to execute their activities safely and efficiently. Self-motivation is necessary to ensure that the work progresses without constant supervision. Planning skills are needed to ensure mine plans and other engineering activities are effectively developed and maintained and that the timely completion of programs satisfy legal and corporate objectives. Financial skills are necessary to evaluate mine-related projects and improvement ideas. Training and team building skills will be needed to improve individual competencies as well as develop focused group action. Communications skills will be used to interact with employees at all levels of the organization as well as external consultants and contractors.
