Nurse Practitioner - Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic.

Position Overview "UAB Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology" is seeking a board‑certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Physician Assistant (PA‑C). The role is within the Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic where the provider works collaboratively with physician faculty to deliver comprehensive psychiatric care to adult patients. Eligibility Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Physician Assistant (PA‑C) candidates. Physician Assistant candidates must already hold a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Psychiatry from the NCCPA. PMHNP with a DEA license is strongly preferred. 1 year of PMHNP experience with prior RN experience in psychiatry is strongly preferred. Key Responsibilities Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic psychiatric illnesses in adult patients, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, personality disorders, ADHD, psychotic disorders, and mood disorders. Provide patient education, health promotion, and care coordination within the scope of practice set by state law, licensing, regulations, institutional policy, and practice agreements. Collaborate with administrative staff, nursing, physicians, and university faculty to assure safe, effective, and quality patient care. Contribute to research, best‑practice development, and innovation initiatives within UAB Medicine. Requirements Master’s degree in nursing with Psychiatric Mental Health NP certification, or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing, or licensure as a Physician Assistant by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners with PA‑C certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA); ACLS and/or PALS may be required. Preferred Experience PMHNP with DEA license. 2 years of PMHNP experience with prior RN experience in psychiatry. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of procedures, protocols, information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat psychiatric conditions. Proficient with computer systems, tools, and programs. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal and self‑directed work habits. Ability to multi‑task, problem‑solve, and work independently or as part of a team. Capability to maintain patient confidentiality. Benefits Full‑time position with benefits. Annual CME allowance of $2,000 for full‑time benefited APPs to support recertification and continued education. 8‑hour day shifts (8 am–5 pm), no weekends/holidays or call required.
