Position Type: Athletics/Activities/ Coaching Date Posted: 6/22/2026 Location: Parry McCluer High School Buena Vista City Public Schools Job Description Assistant Cheer Coach – Fall and Winter (2026–2027 School Year) Position Title: Assistant Cheer Coach (Fall & Winter Seasons) Reports To: Athletic Director and Building Principal FLSA Status: Stipend Position (Seasonal) Location: Parry McCluer High School Position Summary The Cheer Coach is responsible for organizing, supervising, and promoting the Fall and Winter cheerleading programs. The coach will prepare student-athletes to support football (Fall) and basketball (Winter) athletic events while fostering school spirit, leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The program must reflect the high standards and positive representation of Buena Vista City Public Schools. Season Responsibilities Fall Cheer Season Support varsity and/or JV football games (home and away as assigned). Coordinate and lead summer practices and pre-season conditioning as approved. Organize and prepare cheerleaders for pep rallies and community events. Maintain compliance with VHSL and BVCPS athletic guidelines. Winter Cheer Season Support varsity and/or JV basketball games (home and away as assigned). Prepare and implement routines appropriate for indoor athletic settings. Coordinate spirit initiatives and student engagement activities. Ensure continued eligibility monitoring and safety compliance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct tryouts in coordination with administration. Develop and implement structured practice schedules. Teach proper cheer techniques, chants, motions, jumps, and basic stunting with an emphasis on safety. Maintain appropriate supervision at all times. Promote academic success and monitor eligibility requirements. Communicate effectively with parents, students, administration, and athletic staff. Ensure all equipment and uniforms are properly managed and inventoried. Attend required coaches' meetings and professional development. Model professionalism and serve as a positive ambassador for BVCPS. Qualifications High school diploma required; college coursework preferred. Prior cheerleading and/or coaching experience preferred. Knowledge of cheer safety standards and stunt progression. CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain). Completion of required VHSL coaching certifications. Successful background check and School Board approval. Working Conditions Evening, weekend, and summer practice responsibilities. Travel required for away games. Physical activity including demonstrating skills and supervising stunts.
