Machine Operator

This role operates a variety of production machinery to produce, inspect, and prepare products according to customer specifications. You will set up and run machines, perform basic maintenance, and ensure quality and safety standards are consistently met while working a 1st shift schedule from Monday to Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of production machines to produce, inspect, and prepare products in accordance with customer-supplied specifications.
• Read and interpret drawings and bills of materials (BOMs) to determine machine adjustments, material requirements, and production steps.
• Observe machine operations closely to detect product defects or machine malfunctions and take appropriate corrective action.
• Perform routine machine maintenance to keep equipment in safe and efficient working condition.
• Position and adjust fixtures, attachments, and workpieces on machines using hand tools and measuring devices.
• Inspect metal workpieces using calipers, measuring tape, scales, and other measuring devices to ensure all specifications and tolerances are met.
• Set up machines, including tooling and material changes, to meet production schedules and adhere to deadlines.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and orderly work area by following housekeeping standards.
• Apply and enforce quality standards and procedures, respond promptly to quality concerns, and complete required documentation accurately.
• Manage time effectively to meet production goals while striving to reduce scrap, rework, and other forms of waste.
• Safely operate a pallet jack to move materials and finished products within the facility.
• Comply with all safety regulations, promote a safe workplace, and report unsafe acts, conditions, or equipment to supervision.
• Package finished materials in accordance with customer and internal requirements.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support production needs on a temporary or permanent basis.

Essential Skills

• Ability to operate or learn to operate production machinery in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and understand drawings and bills of materials (BOMs).
• Ability to use simple measuring tools such as calipers, measuring tape, scales, and similar devices.
• Basic math skills, including adding and subtracting two-digit numbers and multiplying and dividing with 10s and 100s.
• Ability to perform calculations using units of American weight measurement, volume, and distance.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to be mechanically inclined when working with machines and tools.
• Ability to safely operate a pallet jack.
• Capability to work in an industrial environment with loud noise, moving mechanical parts, and varying temperatures.
• Physical ability to walk, bend, and stand for significant periods and lift up to 45 pounds.
• Ability to use hands and reach with hands and arms for handling materials and operating equipment.
• Ability to communicate clearly and listen effectively, including frequent talking and hearing.
• Visual acuity to perform tasks requiring close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
• Willingness to comply with all safety, quality, and housekeeping requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• No prior machine operator or manufacturing experience required; training is provided.
• Previous industrial or general labor experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
• Comfort working around moving mechanical parts and in a loud production environment.
• Ability to occasionally sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl as needed for machine operation and maintenance.
• Reliability and strong time-management skills to support consistent production output.
• Attention to detail to identify defects, follow specifications, and complete documentation accurately.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing facility with approximately 60 employees, providing a close-knit production environment. You will work a 1st shift schedule from Monday to Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The role requires frequent walking, bending, and standing for significant portions of the shift and lifting up to 45 pounds. You will regularly use your hands and arms to handle materials and operate equipment, and you will frequently need to talk and hear to coordinate with team members. On occasion, you may sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl to access machinery or work areas. Specific vision abilities are necessary, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception, to safely and accurately operate machines and inspect products. The work area includes exposure to moving mechanical parts and is subject to external weather conditions, such as humid conditions, heat, or cold, depending on the season and facility layout. The noise level is usually loud, and appropriate hearing protection may be required. The dress code includes long pants, such as jeans or work pants, and steel-toe footwear to ensure safety on the production floor.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hazleton, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
