About the Opportunity

Bullpen is partnered with a growing Denver-based real estate investment and operating company seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting function across multiple properties, investments, and entities.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who can own financial reporting, oversee day-to-day accounting operations, strengthen internal controls, and build the processes needed to support a growing platform.

The Controller will work directly with company leadership, providing clear financial visibility while ensuring accurate reporting, consistent accounting practices, and accountability across internal and external accounting resources.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead property-level and corporate accounting across multiple real estate entities.
• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare and review financial statements, consolidated reporting, general ledgers, and supporting schedules.
• Oversee bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and intercompany activity.
• Ensure appropriate accounting for property operations, acquisitions, development activity, capital expenditures, and investments.
• Establish and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and reporting standards.
• Lead, supervise, and review work performed by internal, third-party, and offshore accounting resources.
• Partner with property managers and operating teams to resolve accounting issues and improve financial visibility.
• Coordinate with external CPAs on tax preparation, audits, and other reporting requirements.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and analysis of financial performance.
• Oversee lender and investor financial reporting requirements.
• Evaluate accounting systems and workflows, implementing improvements that support accuracy, efficiency, and growth.
• Serve as a key accounting resource to leadership, identifying issues early and providing actionable financial insights.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for leading an accounting function or team.
• Experience in real estate, property accounting, construction, development, or investment management strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and close processes.
• Demonstrated experience managing accounting across multiple entities, including intercompany transactions and consolidations.
• Ability to lead accounting operations while remaining hands-on with detailed accounting work.
• Experience supervising internal teams or overseeing external accounting providers.
• Track record of strengthening controls, improving processes, and building scalable reporting procedures.
• Proficiency with accounting systems and Excel, with the ability to evaluate and improve existing tools.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with leadership and operating teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• CPA preferred but not required.
