Psychiatric Staff Nurse - Emergency Department

Position Objective Provides psychiatric nursing care including intake, assessment, crisis interventions, medication administration and management. Initiates interdisciplinary care plans for inpatient units and collaborates with ED and mental health teams for mental health emergency department disposition. Assists with discharge planning and education and communicates professionally with colleagues. Responsibilities Demonstrates clinical nursing knowledge and skill in specialization of the unit. Applies the nursing process effectively for culturally diverse patients and families. Utilizes applicable laws, regulations, policies, standards, guidelines, and evidence‑based practice in patient/family care. Organizes and reprioritizes patient care activities based on subtle overt and/or environmental changes. Assesses patients to collect data, identify learning needs and develop individualized problem lists. Develops and individualizes plan of care aligned with established standards and mutually agreed goals. Implements care plans per applicable standards, policies and procedures. Provides proficiency in medication administration, pain management and unit‑specific skills. Evaluates the effectiveness of care plans, revising them based on patient responses. Assesses patient/family learning needs, readiness, style and barriers; implements teaching plans. Applies knowledge of growth levels across the lifespan within patient care. Provides direct patient care in a culturally, developmentally, and ethically appropriate manner. Ensures care plans address physical, psychosocial, spiritual and learning needs. Participates in quality improvement, continuous process improvement and risk management activities. Supports evidence‑based guidelines and policies to promote safe patient care. Participates in unit shared governance, education and orientation of new staff. Delegates patient care activities and evaluates delegated work. Uses real‑time computer documentation for patient records. Performs charge nurse duties as needed and supervises other staff. Educational/Experience Requirements 1-3 years of psychiatric nursing experience. Successful completion of an approved nursing program; if not a BSN, actively working toward completion. Required License/Certifications Current licensure as a registered nurse by the Maryland Board of Nursing. American Heart Association BLS certification. Adherence to Luminis Health credentialing requirements. Working Conditions & Physical Demands Employees may be exposed to blood‑borne pathogens and agitated patients. Physical demands include medium work: up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, up to 30 lbs frequently, up to 10 lbs constantly to move objects. Pay Range

$35-54 USD
