RCC Sexual Violence Resource Center (RCC) provides 24-hour helpline support, medical advocacy, and law enforcement advocacy for sexual assault survivors of all ages, counseling and personal advocacy for survivors twelve years of age and older, legal advocacy, campus advocacy, systems advocacy, self-defense, education, outreach, professional development and prevention programming. Position Summary The Outreach & Education Specialist (OES) is responsible for creating, implementing, and sustaining sexual violence prevention education and community outreach efforts for RCC Sexual Violence Resource Center. They will regularly collaborate with the Director of Outreach, Prevention, & Education (DOPE), Executive Director (ED), RCC staff, community partners, volunteers and the general public to deliver and evaluate programming. The OES helps RCC increase sexual assault victim/survivor access to services through education and outreach primarily to youth, but also to adults, as needed. The purpose of the OES is to educate the community on personal, familial and societal impact of sexual violence through accessible and developmentally appropriate education and outreach, with the ultimate goal of preventing sexual violence and sharing resources. The OES is responsible for coordinating, developing, and implementing effective outreach materials and education curricula and building relationships with new and existing community partners. Additionally, the OES organizes the evaluation of all their own educational programming and services, supports grant maintenance, and sets and meets goals for the department. As with all RCC employees, the OES must be committed to providing services with and to a variety of cultures with cultural awareness, sensitivity, and humility. Duties & Responsibilities: Community Outreach, Prevention, and Education
- Provide educational presentations to youth and adults in middle schools, high schools, colleges, community agencies, and other groups
- Create engaging, visually appealing outreach and education materials and curricula independently and in collaboration with OPE team
- Develop trauma informed, empowerment-focused, culturally responsive education; deliver through presentations (in-person, written, video, and/or other appropriate formats)
- Facilitate sensitive and potentially activating topics and conversations in an ethical, trauma-informed way to youth and community
- Collaborate to build new evidence-informed curricula for all education programming with DOPE & department staff, including one-time educational presentations as well as multiple-session prevention education courses
- Collaborate with DOPE in the development and delivery of program evaluations to maintain evidence-informed curricula that is creative, effective, and population-specific.
- Collaborate with Direct Services (DS) to ensure that all victims who disclose to OES receive prompt, appropriate services.
- Maintain strong working relationships with Dane County teachers, faculty and staff of K-12 schools and youth serving organizations, as well as area service providers and ensure agency representation at appropriate collaboration meetings and events related to sexual violence education.
- Develop and maintain mailing & contact lists for RCC program outreach and engage in regular promotion and follow up with partners in collaboration with Director of Communication when appropriate
- Receive, coordinate, and schedule program requests in a prompt, organized, and professional manner; effectively manage schedule & calendar
- Frequently staff tabling events as needed
- Assist Prevention Specialist in the recruitment of GameChangers program participants
- Plan one or more RCC event during April for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) with coalition of partners dedicated to ending sexual violence and intersecting forms of oppression, including, but not limited to racism, classism, homophobia, and sexism.
- Collaborate with DOPE to facilitate partnerships with appropriate public and private agencies that are working to build racial and gender equity and address sexual assault, to broaden the impact and reach of RCC services.
- Attend relevant community panels, dialogues, events, etc. as requested and at the discretion of the DOPE and ED
- Help develop and implement short and long-range outreach and education goals
- Participate in weekly OPE team meetings, monthly all-staff meetings, weekly 1:1 meetings with supervisor, other staff meetings as needed, and document pertinent information.
- Record and maintain media archive of OES program and outreach activities in OPE media drive (photos, videos, news articles, radio and podcast recordings, etc.)
- Communicate regularly with Director of Communications for newsletter updates, information and media gathering
- Participate in the general upkeep of office space.
- Provide technical assistance and emotional support to other members of the team.
- Complete RCC Outreach Educator, Helpline Volunteer & Chimera training programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Women and Gender Studies, Social Work, Education or related field, or demonstrated subject knowledge
- Experience working with diverse youth in urban and rural communities, a commitment to supporting and centering youth perspectives and experiences
- Facilitation experience with diverse audiences, especially of challenging topics
- The ability to build strong relationships with a variety of audiences and communities; ability to effectively communicate with youth, adult and marginalized populations
- Clear, demonstrated understanding of sexual violence and intersectional feminism; commitment to incorporating principles of intersectional feminism thoughout work
- Excellent public speaking skills and strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to create attractive and effective outreach materials and slide decks
- Comfort and competence in working independently and as part of a team
- Ability to organize and maintain schedule, materials, data, meeting minutes, and logistics.
- Access to reliable private transportation with appropriate license, insurance, and ability to travel throughout Dane County.
- Ability to work flexible hours that include evenings and weekends.
- Satisfactory Criminal Background Check & fingerprinting.
- Experience with program evaluation
- Experience with Zoom, Canva, Adobe, or other graphic design program for the purpose of designing promotional materials.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Work is primarily hybrid (minimum 1 day/week in office; regular on-site, in-person programming) with occasional additional office duties
- Must be able to lift and move up to 20 pounds
- Ongoing daily use of computers and telephone
- Walk, sit, stand, bend, climb, and use your hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk, hear, read, count, and write
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus
- Must be able to work with frequent interruption
- Low to moderate noise level
- Travel as needed to perform the duties of the job
