ASCP Certified Surgical Technologist

Job Summary: Assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures by ensuring the operating suite is fully prepared and all surgical instruments and supplies are monitored and sterilized. Participate in staff meetings and performance improvement initiatives. Responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies and equipment following infection prevention protocols. Provide leadership in the absence of management and adapt to new ideas while working under stressful conditions. On-call duties are required.

Essential Functions:

Interact professionally with patients and their families, providing explanations and reassurance as needed.
Notify licensed staff promptly if patients report pain.
Adapt procedures to meet the needs of patients across all age groups, from neonates to geriatrics.
Prepare operating rooms efficiently with all necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment tailored to each surgical procedure.
Handle specimens with care and accuracy at all times.
Assist in patient positioning, prepping, and draping for surgery.
Complete accurate counts of instruments, sponges, and needles; follow protocols for discrepancies and report immediately.
Maintain strict medical and surgical asepsis during procedures.
Ensure a safe environment for patients, coworkers, and self by adhering to policies and procedures.
Check all equipment and instruments prior to procedures to confirm proper functioning.
Respect patient privacy and sensitivities, observing patients with minimal disturbance.
Treat patients and families with dignity, addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs.
Follow aseptic techniques when opening sterile supplies and setting up procedures.
Perform all patient care activities in a manner that optimizes safety and minimizes healthcare errors.

Education, Experience, and Requirements:

Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Registered Surgical Technician credential required.
Call availability with a 30-minute response time.
Preferred: At least one year of experience in operating room or sterile processing environments.

Professional Expectations:

Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
Report to work punctually and complete tasks within designated timelines.
Communicate courteously and respectfully with patients, guests, and staff.
