Cook - Grill

The Grill Cook accurately and efficiently prepares, portions, grills, and presents a variety of hot and cold food items for multiple meal periods, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special or catered events. This role ensures high-quality food production, consistent presentation, and a clean, well-organized work area while following all food handling and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, portion, and grill a variety of hot and cold food items for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special or catered events.
• Cook meals to order, following established recipes, portion sizes, and presentation standards.
• Perform food preparation tasks such as chopping, slicing, marinating, and assembling ingredients in advance of service.
• Set up, operate, and break down the grill and related cooking stations at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Ensure all food items are cooked and held at proper temperatures and are served in a timely manner.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area, including grill stations, prep areas, and storage spaces.
• Wash dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment as needed to support continuous kitchen operations.
• Follow food safety, handling, and sanitation procedures at all times to meet health and safety standards.
• Assist with general kitchen cleaning and janitorial duties, including sweeping, mopping, wiping surfaces, and removing trash.
• Coordinate with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient food production and smooth service during busy periods.
• Monitor inventory levels at the station and communicate shortages or needs to the appropriate team members.
• Support special events and catered functions by preparing, cooking, and presenting menu items as required.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience working as a grill cook, line cook, or in a similar cooking role.
• Strong grilling skills with the ability to cook a variety of hot and cold food items consistently and accurately.
• Demonstrated ability to handle food safely, including proper storage, preparation, and cooking practices.
• Experience cooking meals in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Experience with food preparation, including chopping, slicing, and portioning ingredients.
• Ability to perform dishwashing duties, including cleaning dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
• Knowledge of basic kitchen cleaning and janitorial practices to maintain a sanitary work environment.
• Ability to follow recipes, portion guidelines, and presentation standards.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality and consistency.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple tasks during busy service periods.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting special events or catered functions.
• Familiarity with a variety of menu items across breakfast, lunch, and dinner service.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a kitchen team.
• Willingness to perform a mix of cooking, prep, cleaning, and dishwashing tasks as needed.

Work Environment

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Clayton, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.10 - $21.10/hr.
