The Senior Accountant will play a key role in supporting the company’s accounting operations, month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, payroll accounting, tax compliance support, and audit preparation. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive — not only able to prepare journal entries and reconciliations accurately, but also able to identify issues, investigate variances, recommend solutions, and continuously help improve processes.

As part of a small accounting and finance team, the Senior Accountant will need to be flexible, collaborative, and willing to take ownership across a variety of accounting responsibilities. This role requires strong time management and the ability to meet close, audit, tax, and reporting deadlines. Occasional additional flexibility may be needed during peak periods such as month end close, and audit support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Manage the month-end close cycle, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
2. Prepare financial reports and related analytics.
3. Prepare budget to actual analysis for significant account variances.
4. Perform daily bank and monthly balance sheet account reconciliations to support timely month end close.
5. Manage accounts receivable workflow, including customer invoicing, minimal check deposits, recording electronic customer payments, weekly customer aging review and follow-up/escalation, and professional and timely response to AR inquiries.
6. Manage the accuracy of domestic and international tax/sales tax filings, working with consulting and compliance partners.
7. Provide support during the annual financial statement audit and tax preparation.
8. Work closely with the Director of Finance to prepare annual budgets, P&L forecasts and cash forecasts.
9. Process, record, and reconcile US and international payroll and related activity.
10. Support reporting, analysis, process improvements, documentation, account cleanup, and other ad hoc projects, as workload and close deadlines allow.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Candidates should be proactive, independent problem solvers who are seeking responsibility and are comfortable working in a hands-on accounting environment. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to look beyond the mechanics of reconciliations and journal entries to identify and resolve issues.

This person must have outstanding analytical skills, strong communication skills, a high level of personal integrity, and a solutions-driven approach to problem solving. Because the accounting and finance team is small, the successful candidate should be flexible, collaborative, and willing to wear multiple hats as business needs evolve.

 

Minimum qualifications include:

• Strong technical accounting skills, including understanding of GAAP, accrual accounting, bank reconciliations, balance sheet account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close processes.
• Ability to identify discrepancies and errors, investigate variances, and recommend or implement corrective actions.
• Experience preparing accurate reconciliations and supporting schedules under close deadlines.
• Experience with recording and reconciling payroll.
• Two to five years relevant accounting experience.
• Experience with fast close deadlines is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with responsiveness to internal and external requests.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including spreadsheet preparation and formatting, formulas, sorting, pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
• BS or BA in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent experience.
• Desire for continual improvement and proactively identifying opportunities to add value to the company.
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment, with knowledge of inventory and cost accounting, is a plus.
• Revenue recognition experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of QuickBooks Desktop is a plus.
