Position: Telecommunications Officer Pay Type: Non-exempt Pay Classification: Full-time Pay Grade: Telecommunication Officer Department: Communications Responsible To: Deputy Police Chief Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the communications director, this position will be working within the city of Danville’s 911 Center. The position will be responsible for receiving inbound calls from citizens regarding public safety and law enforcement concerns. Will be required to receive, evaluate, and dispatch calls to city, county, state, and other public safety/emergency agencies as required. Supervisory Responsibilities: No Duties/Responsibilities: Receives incoming emergency and non-emergency calls from citizens. Responsible for dispatching police, fire, and other safety personnel to emergency scenes as necessary. Responsible for monitoring various radio frequencies. Operates LINK/NCIC computer systems. Records and maintains daily communications. Responsible for setting off emergency notifications as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: Must have ability to work in a fast-paced high stress environment. Ability to maintain a calm, cool, and collective demeanor in emergency situations. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner via radio and phone when dealing with both the general public and safety personnel. Ability to establish working relationships with coworkers, city officials, safety personnel, and the general public. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Must have ability to work with a high sense of urgency. Ability to follow work instructions from direct supervisor. Basic computer skills, with the ability to learn to utilize 911 software applications. Ability to submit to and pass pre-employment hearing and vision examination. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as job duties demand. Working knowledge of the geography of the city of Danville and Boyle County, or ability to the learn geography of the dispatch center territory. Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED. Must have valid and current driver’s license. Prior 911 dispatch experience is preferred, but not required Working knowledge of local government is a plus. Certifications: KY 911 state certification is desired, but not required. Non-certified candidates must have the ability to obtain their KY 911 certification within the 1st year of employment. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 20lbs occasionally. Walking, twisting, stooping, and bending on a regular basis. Must have the ability to sit a workstation for extended periods of time. Ability to wear headsets and use phone systems on a regular basis. Ability to view computer monitors for extended periods of time. Must have adequate hearing levels with or without assistance in order to understand communication across various media platforms.
