Job Description

Position Title: Social Worker

Contract Period: 180 Days

Reports To: Building principal

Essential Functions

1. Prepare social and family histories and enter them accurately into student reports in a timely fashion.

2. Counsel students, staff, and parents individually and in a group format.

3. Conduct effective meetings and conferences, including the successful resolution of disagreements.

4. Demonstrate a knowledge of community resources and the ability to coordinate services from several resources for the benefit of individual students and/or families.

Job Responsibilities

5. Conduct social development studies.

6. Complete functional analysis on students demonstrating emotional/behavior problems.

7. Participates in the identification and solution of school problems, which effect the total school population (policies, procedures, regulations).

8. Consults with the classroom teachers to ensure better understanding of student needs.

9. Organizes and/or participates in in-service training programs.

10. Assists in development of accommodations and adaptations for the student in the regular classroom.

11. Serves as a liaison between school, families, and community agencies.

12. Works with parents as individuals or in groups.

13. Collaborates with parents to address student and family problems.

14. Participates in conferences and the development of Individualized Education programs with other school personnel.

15. Practices individual and group casework and counseling with students.

16. Works with non-educational specialists (physicians, psychologists, psychiatrists, etc.) as needed to address individual student needs.

17. Participates in Response to Intervention (RtI) teams.

18. Participates in program development to identify and serve students with special needs.

19. Remains respectful of confidentiality laws.

20. Provides crisis intervention as needed.

21. Provides referrals to outside counseling agencies.

22. Maintains appropriate school records and provides written reports and communication as necessary.

23. Track and case manage identified "behaviorally at-risk" non-special education students

24. Other duties as assigned by Director of Special Education.

Qualifications

• An Illinois School Service Personnel certificate with a school social worker endorsement.
