Position Title: Sales ManagerDepartment: SalesReports To:Date Written/Revised: July 8, 2014POSITION SUMMARYSolicit past and new business to ensure all revenue goals are achieved or exceeded. Manage accounts to achieve guest satisfaction.EXAMPLES OF DUTIESESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSSolicit new business using HIS reports, outside sales calls, cold calls, etc. to prospect new clients. Promptly respond to in-bound inquiry calls and follow-up to capture desired business. Maintain an organized system to ensure all viable inquiries are pursued in a timely manner. Return calls, quotes, proposals, and contracts must be completed in a timely manner as customers may be “shopping” other properties.Accurately block rooms and space in systems. Utilize standardized contracts and proposals, call log, and reporting functionality.Maintain positive relationship with existing clients, keep up to date client profiles on each client and effectively utilize this information to build rapport and capture future sales (send birthday, anniversary, holiday cards, etc.). Meet, greet and entertain potential and existing clients, providing information regarding the property to increase sales.Travel locally and out of city/state as necessary to attend trade shows, conduct outside sales calls, promote the property, examine competition, or research potential clients.Move throughout property to conduct site inspections, reporting any repairs or areas requiring maintenance to the appropriate department. Tour existing, former and potential clients, providing information about the property and by utilizing and effective and positive sales technique.Develop/maintain knowledge of market trends, competition and customers.SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONSIn addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions.Attend all property meetings as necessary.Work closely with the catering department to generate new business and service accounts.Promptly and effectively use all communication tools including phone, e-mail, fax, mail etc.Perform room inspections, which requires bending, stooping, reaching overhead and moving throughout guest room floors.Maintain open communication with all property-operating departments.Other duties as assigned by the supervisor such as: cross training, assisting in other departments, etc.SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESThe individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger, collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.Strong sales skills with proven sales techniques and ability to up sell products and services.Ability to analyze complex statistical data and make sound judgments accordingly.Considerable skill in the use of a calculator to prepare moderately complex mathematical calculations without error.Ability to access and accurately input and retrieve information using a moderately complex computer system.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, customers, and patrons.Ability to read, listen and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach and move continuously to oversee area and inspect rooms and public areas on all floors of the property.QUALIFICATION STANDARDSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEAny combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. College degree with hotel major is preferred. Prior sales experience required, hotel sales experience strongly preferred.GROOMINGAll associates must maintain a neat, clean and well groomed appearance (specific standards available).FLSA Designation exemptOTHERUpon employment all associates are required to comply with the standards, rules and regulations which may be established by the Company and updated from time to time. Associates who violate property rules or have irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.The Hospitality business functions seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day. Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, associates may be required to work varying schedules, weekends, holidays and overtime to reflect the business needs of the property. Associates may also be required to attend group and/or department meetings in addition to the work shift as necessary.
