The Junior Accountant performs staff accounting functions and ensures that financial information is both accurate and timely. This role has a major focus on accounts receivables and is responsible for managing cash flows and revenue streams into the School, which includes dealing with various customers, reconciling accounts, booking deposits, and creating monthly journal entries. The incumbent is responsible for communicating accounting policies to all employees, monitoring compliance, and addressing issues, as necessary.Accounts ReceivablesServes as the primary parent contact for billing inquiries while managing tuition account setup, tuition statement, and family invoicing for incidental charges.Processes, deposits, and records weekly checks and monthly electronic paymentsReconciles various accounts receivables accounts (tuition, after-school, summer school, special programs)Pulls aging accounts receivables report monthly and generates collection emails using templatesReconciles and tracks donations, working with the Advancement officeCreates tuition insurance roster and processes tuition reimbursement claimsPrepares gift related schedules for audit (pledge file, temp restricted)Pulls and provides cash receipts support for auditRequests and provides gift related support for form 990 tax returnFinancial ReportingSupports the month-end closing process and responds to inquiries from budget managersPrepares journal entries and account reconciliations for monthly closingSupports the preparation of annual budget in collaboration with school administrators and department headsSupports the preparation of annual audits (financial & 403b), including preparation of schedules, serving as key contact with auditorsAssures financial compliance in all reporting areasBusiness Office OperationsAssists with routine accounting and administrative tasks and interdepartmental follow-up communications as assignedReviews invoices and reimbursement requests to ensure requirements have been met before passing on to Controller or AP Coordinator for processingReviews reimbursement transactions for missing receipts and works to gather missing documentationPerforms daily and weekly administrative tasks to ensure smooth office operationsExpectations: Work schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:00pm, with on-site presence for a minimum of 4 days; this is a benefits eligible position.RequirementsMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in accounting and 2+ years accounting experience ORHigh School diploma and 5+ years of accounting experiencePreferred Qualifications:Experience in a public accounting firm or not-for-profit organizationStrong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and fund accountingExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsFamiliarity with accounting and database softwares, and proficiency with Excel and Google sheetsInterest in working in a mission-led organization and respect for the School's visionTarget compensation is $67,000; range is $60,000–$80,000Exact salary offered is dependent on experience and demonstrated expertiseCarroll School is an equal opportunity employer that offers competitive salaries and benefits, including comprehensive professional development opportunities.
