SafetyCoordinator–JobDescription PositionDescription The Safety Coordinator works under the direction of the Senior Safety Manager to promote a safe, compliant, and proactive work environment across all Universal Services operations. The position supports both field and office teams through active engagement, training, audits, and coaching. The Safety Coordinator ensures new hires are properly trained on Universal's safety expectations, investigates incidents, and reinforces safe work practices across departments. The role requires both in‑office responsibilities and consistent field presence to maintain Universal’s commitment to a strong safety culture. Core Responsibilities Safety Leadership & Field Engagement Partner with the Senior Safety Manager to implement safety programs and initiatives. Conduct site visits to observe, audit, and support safe work practices. Lead daily and weekly toolbox talks and safety meetings with field teams. Provide coaching to crew leads and field employees on safety standards and expectations. Promote a positive, solutions‑oriented approach to safety in all communications. Training & New Hire Orientation Conduct new hire safety orientation for all incoming employees. Administer and track training through ELB/LMS for compliance and completion. Facilitate recurring safety training sessions and refreshers for existing employees. Develop and distribute job‑specific safety materials, presentations, and toolbox topics. Maintain accurate records of training attendance and certifications. Incident Prevention & Investigation Support investigation of incidents, near‑misses, and property damage events. Identify root causes and assist in implementing corrective actions. Complete detailed incident documentation and coordinate with HR when needed. Conduct follow‑up field visits to verify improvements are sustained. Auditing & Compliance Perform regular job site safety and equipment inspections. Maintain and update SDS records, OSHA logs, and company safety metrics. Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and internal safety requirements. Identify hazards and recommend improvements to site conditions or work methods. Safety Systems & Communication Act as subject matter expert on Universal’s ELB Management System. Assist in developing and improving electronic safety workflows and forms. Support rollout of new safety software and data‑tracking initiatives. Communicate findings, updates, and best practices through reports and meetings. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Occupational Safety & Health, or related field. 1–3 years of experience in construction, utilities, or industrial safety. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and LMS systems. Strong communication, observation, and interpersonal skills. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field sites in all weather conditions. Preferred Skills OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Knowledge of construction safety standards, hazard recognition, and job hazard analysis. Experience conducting field safety audits and training sessions. Familiarity with environmental compliance and PPE management. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Physical Demands & Competencies Field and office‑based role requiring regular travel to active jobsites. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and construction environments. Must be able to walk, stand, and occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. Demonstrates initiative, integrity, and accountability. Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills in a fast‑paced setting. Work Schedule Full‑time, non‑exempt position. Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, with flexibility for nights, weekends, and emergencies. Regular and punctual attendance is essential.
