Quality Assurance Repair Technician

Position Summary The Quality Repair Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, reworking, and retesting electronic units that fail in-process or final inspection and testing. This position performs approved repair activities in accordance with established procedures, quality standards, workmanship requirements, and ESD controls to ensure repaired products meet the same requirements as first-pass production.
The role documents failure causes and repair actions, identifies recurring failure patterns, and works closely with the Quality Lead and Manufacturing Process Engineer to support defect analysis, root cause investigation, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose electronic units that fail in-process or final inspection and testing to determine the cause of failure and appropriate repair action.
• Perform approved repair and rework activities in accordance with established procedures, work instructions, specifications, and workmanship standards.
• Retest repaired units using approved test procedures and equipment to verify functionality and quality requirements before returning units to production flow.
• Document failure symptoms, identified root cause, repair actions, replaced components, and retest results accurately for quality tracking and defect analysis.
• Identify and promptly report recurring failure patterns, unusual defects, or process-related issues to the Quality Lead and Manufacturing Process Engineer.
• Follow all ESD protection and product-handling requirements when diagnosing, repairing, reworking, and testing electronic assemblies.
• Use soldering, diagnostic, test, calibration, repair, and rework equipment safely and correctly according to established procedures.
• Inspect completed repairs for workmanship quality and ensure repaired units meet applicable acceptance criteria before release.
• Maintain and verify repair and test equipment according to established schedules and report equipment requiring calibration, maintenance, or service.
• Support root cause investigations and corrective action activities by providing accurate repair data, observations, and failure trends.
• Maintain an organized repair area and ensure nonconforming and repaired units are properly identified, controlled, and handled.
• Follow all company quality, safety, documentation, and required PPE procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in electronics or a related field preferred.
• Previous experience repairing, troubleshooting, testing, or reworking electronic products or assemblies preferred.
• Working knowledge of electronic components, soldering techniques, test equipment, and basic troubleshooting methods.
• Ability to read and follow detailed work instructions, repair procedures, test procedures, and product specifications.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify defects, diagnose failures, and perform precise repair work.
• Ability to accurately document failure causes, repair actions, and test results.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to perform detailed technical work while maintaining quality, productivity, and safety requirements.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in electronics, automotive-related, or other quality-controlled manufacturing environments.
• Experience with hand soldering, component replacement, PCB rework, electronic troubleshooting, testing, or calibration.
• Knowledge of electronics workmanship standards such as IPC-A-610 and ESD control requirements.
• Experience using multimeters, test fixtures, diagnostic equipment, or other electronic test tools.
• Experience with quality tracking, production systems, or ERP systems, including SAP.
