Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of critical care ICU experience (non-PCU) License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Critical care ICU experience is required for night shift. - Will accept first-time travelers. Description: This position is in the Intensive Care Unit. The unit has 14 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are typically 1:2, but may be 1:1 based on acuity and specialty devices. RNs are required to titrate drips. Common titratable drips include Norepinephrine, Epinephrine, Phenylephrine, and others. There is a designated charge nurse on each shift. The charge nurse does not take a patient assignment unless necessary. Patient care techs are present on the unit with a usual ratio of 1:8. There is a Tele Tech/HUC in the ICU. Hospitalist or Intensivist is in-house 24/7 during the day. At night, a Tele MD and an on-site physician cover ICU admissions across multiple campuses. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7. RNs must be able to troubleshoot and manage equipment if RT is unavailable. RNs are required to perform their own telemetry strip readings. The unit utilizes space monitoring equipment. Scheduling is done by management and travelers are asked to fill gaps in permanent staffing. Travel staff are scheduled after the core staff schedule is complete. Typically, every other weekend is required. Travel staff may be asked to float across various campuses as needed. Floating may be requested with notice prior to shift start. Scrubs may be any color. Travelers have reported positive experiences, feeling welcomed and treated as part of the team. Cancellation policy allows for client cancellation of up to 4 shifts per assignment.
