Head of Procurement and Supply Chain Management

bpx energy is bp's US onshore oil and gas business, with operations in the Permian, Eagle Ford, and Haynesville basins and headquarters in Denver. The role

The Head of Procurement and Supply Chain Management owns how bpx buys, contracts for, and moves everything required to drill, complete, and operate wells and our midstream assets. The role sets sourcing and category strategy across drilling, completions, facilities construction, lease operating expense, midstream infrastructure (including electrical infrastructure), and indirect spend; owns the end to end procure to pay process and its controls; and leads the supplier relationships that determine whether our operations run safely, on schedule, and in a cost competitive manner.

This is a leadership role with a heavy commercial and relationship edge. Success looks like competitive cost structures, new and innovative business models, contracts that hold up under operational pressure, materials available when the schedule calls for them, and a P2P process that finance can rely on without manual intervention. Data is our asset in supply chain and decisions are data driven.

Key accountabilities

Category and sourcing strategy

• Set multi year category strategies across drilling, completions, facilities construction, lease operating expense, midstream infrastructure, and indirect spend, aligned to the development plan while preserving flexibility.

• Own competitive sourcing events (RFP/RFQ) for major service and equipment categories, including scope definition, commercial evaluation, and award recommendation.

• Coordinate with bp group category management where leverage or policy alignment creates value, while protecting the pace bpx operations require.

Commercial and contracting

• Negotiate and manage master agreements (MSAs, Master Construction Contracts, Work Orders) partnering with Legal on template design and risk allocation.

• Lead high value commercial negotiations and serve as the escalation point on contract disputes and claims while providing proactive communication with a variety of constituents.

• Maintain contract governance: renewal calendars, rate compliance, and audit readiness.

Procure to pay operations and controls

• Own the P2P process end to end, including requisitioning, purchase orders, receiving, invoice processing and accounts payable, along with internal controls.

• Drive accuracy and cycle time through process redesign and technology rather than headcount.

• Partner with US based and offshore Accounting and FP&A on accrual quality, lease accounting, cost coding integrity, and month end close support.

Materials, inventory and logistics

• Own inventory strategy and forecasting for wellsite facilities and operations, balancing carrying cost against schedule risk.

• Ensure materials availability supports the D&C cycle and production uptime, including lead time planning for long lead equipment.

Supplier performance, risk, and HSE

• Run a supplier management program covering onboarding, qualification, performance review, and offboarding.

• Embed HSE requirements and contractor safety expectations into qualification and award decisions.

• Manage supply chain risk: concentration, financial health, single source exposure, and market volatility.

Digital and process transformation

• Identify and deliver technology solutions that streamline procurement, payables, and adjacent finance processes.

• Build the business cases (cost, benefit quantification, and executive reporting) for prioritized investments.

Leadership

• Lead, develop, and structure the PSCM organization, including succession and capability building.

• Develop a deep relationship with our business stakeholders both at the executive level and key business decision makers.

• Bring an extensive network within the US onshore OFS supply market.

• Represent PSCM to the leadership team with clear reporting on spend, savings, supplier performance, and risk.

• Be able to clearly communicate in a concise manner to executives and key decision makers.

Essential experience

• 15+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, or commercial roles, including 10+ years in a leadership capacity.

• US onshore oil and gas experience; direct exposure to drilling, completions, facilities, lease operating, midstream infrastructure, and indirect spend categories.

• Demonstrated ownership of significant spend under management, with quantified cost and cycle time outcomes.

• Deep contracting experience, including negotiating and administering master agreements in an operating environment.

• Working command of P2P systems and internal controls.

• Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, engineering, finance, or a related field.

Preferred

• MBA or equivalent advanced degree.

• CPSM certification.

• Experience standing up or rebuilding a procurement function after an acquisition or during rapid growth.

• Consulting or program management background with a record of technology enabled process change.

• Experience operating inside a parent company structure with group level policy and category alignment.

How much do we pay? (Base): $234,000 - $280,000

* Note that the pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.
