POSITION ACCOUNTABLE TO: Laboratory Manager

 

POSITION TYPE: Full-time, hourly (non-exempt)

 

JOB SUMMARY: Hixson Metal Finishing is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Physical Test Lab Technician. As a crucial member of our laboratory team, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of our metal finishing processes.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

• Daily Duties
• • Daily inspections on tanks – take temperatures of all tanks
  • Daily check on salt spray chambers – analysis, collections
  • Daily check of the waste treatment waste on AA
  • Inspect and process periodic tests as they come in from production
• Weekly Duties
• • Accuracy verification for all ovens
• Monthly Duties
• • Monthly metal concentration testing on AA
  • Print 218 travelers
  • Engrave and attach panels to travelers
  • Move travelers to production departments and assign due dates in HMF EDS
  • Monthly maintenance/cleaning of the Salt spray chamber
  • Monthly solution make up for the Salt spray chamber
  • Monthly inventory of the test panels, notch bars and coupons
  • Order panels, notch bars, coupons
• In House Testing
• • Salt Spray (41 tests) Log in and out on Salt spray log
  • Coating weight (25 tests)
  • Wet tape Adhesion (16 tests)
  • Taber Abrasion (11 tests)
  • Thickness (60 test anodize, 62 tests plating)
  • Heat Resistance (5 tests)
  • Adhesion Bend test (18 tests)
  • Solderability (4 tests)
  • Salt spray test for Vac Cad enter info to Vac Cad log twice a week
  • Water break test (3)
  • Powder/ Wipe test (4)
  • Porosity
• Outside Testing
• • Impact test, Hydrogen Embrittlement, Micro Hardness, Thickness Destructive, Hardness, Phosphorus Content, Itergranular Attack, Hydrogen pick-up, humidity.
  • Verify thickness, adhesion, Appearance to all test
  • Cut PO’s
  • Labeling, packing and shipping
  • Receive and accept testing certificates
  • Accept and enter all testing results on testing log
  • Close all testing on HMFEDS
• Paint
• • Purchasing new tools
  • Ordering tape for inspection every 6 months
  • Schedule dates with outside sources MVM, PIC
  • Collect all tools from production
  • Create and maintain folders with all calibration certificates
• In House Calibration (Every 6 Months)
• • Calipers
  • OD Micrometer
  • ID Micrometer
  • Timers, clocks, stopwatches
  • Viscosity cups
• Outside Calibration
• • Ovens, flukes, probes (every 3 months)
  • Rectifiers, temperature controller, pressure gages, temperature humidity every 6 months
  • Gage blocks, ring gages (every 6 months)
  • Schedule dates
  • Request quotes
  • Cut PO’s
  • Receive and accept certificates
  • Enter all date to QCBD

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

o Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

o Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

o Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.

o Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

o Understanding of chemical principles and laboratory techniques

o Knowledge of metal finishing processes is a plus.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

o Ability to lift 30lbs continuously

o Ability to stand and/or walk on your feet for extended periods of time

o Must pass a drug test and criminal background check

 

EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

o Degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field or related work experience (preferred)
