Production Packaging Machine OperatorThis role involves operating production and packaging equipment, accurately reading and executing work orders, and ensuring that all materials are measured, inspected, and packaged to precise quality and customer specifications. You will handle materials throughout the production and shipping process while consistently following established safety and quality procedures.ResponsibilitiesRead and interpret work orders to determine packaging, material, and processing requirements.Gather and stage materials to be packaged according to the details specified in each work order.Inspect work pieces for defects and ensure they meet quality and customer requirements before packaging or shipment.Measure work pieces using appropriate tools, such as tape measures and other measuring devices, to verify the accuracy of machine operations.Position, adjust, and secure stock material or work pieces against stops, on arbors, or in chucks, fixtures, or automatic feeding mechanisms, either manually or using hoists.Follow all shipping and packaging instructions, quality procedures, and customer specifications throughout the production and shipping process.Perform material handling tasks, including loading, unloading, and moving materials within the facility, using appropriate equipment and tools.Use inventory tools such as RF scanners to pick orders accurately and support shipping and receiving activities.Assist with shipping and receiving functions, including preparing materials for shipment and verifying incoming and outgoing orders.Operate or support the operation of overhead cranes and other lifting equipment once properly trained and certified.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company standards.Follow all company quality and safety procedures at all times and immediately report any unsafe conditions or incidents.Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production targets and maintain high standards of quality and efficiency.Essential SkillsProven machine operation experience in a production, manufacturing, or similar environment.Strong shop math skills, including the ability to perform basic calculations used in production and measurement.Ability to convert decimals to fractions accurately and efficiently.Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work with mechanical equipment and tools.Proficiency in using a tape measure and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.Experience with material handling tasks such as loading, unloading, and moving materials safely.Familiarity with shipping and receiving processes, including order picking and verification.Ability to use RF scanners or similar devices to support inventory and order picking activities.Capability to inspect work pieces for defects and adhere to quality standards.Willingness and ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including work orders and safety procedures.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience working in a production or manufacturing environment with organized workflows.Exposure to overhead crane operation or willingness to train and become certified.Interest in obtaining certifications in forklift driving and overhead crane operation provided by the employer.Comfort working in an environment where machine oils and coolants are present.Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality standards.Strong work ethic and reliability, with the ability to support production goals and deadlines.Why Work Here?You will join a well-organized operation that invests in your development and rewards performance. Company uniforms are provided after a short period of employment, and steel toe boots are supplied annually after your first year, supporting both safety and professionalism on the production floor.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elgin, IL.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
