On-Call Food Service Employee
The on-call food service employee is responsible for preparing and serving quality, nutritious meals in accordance with the school district's menu, policies, and established nutritional and safety guidelines. This role supports the promotion of healthy food options and contributes to the success of the district's food service program.
Major areas of accountability include:
- Prepare and serve meals following the daily menu and portion standards.
- Keep kitchen areas clean and follow all safety and sanitation rules.
- Help manage food and supply inventory; place orders when needed.
- Assist with snacks or meals for special school events.
- Record and report the number of meals served or prepared.
- Communicate effectively with staff, students, and vendors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and abilities include:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
- Basic knowledge of food preparation, storage, and safety procedures.
- Understanding of nutrition and portion control.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Dependable, flexible, and able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be willing to complete the Minnesota Department of Education School Nutrition Program training.
- Serve Safe Certification (or ability to obtain) required.
- Prior food service experience preferred.
Working environment includes:
- Active kitchen setting with frequent standing, bending, lifting, and walking.
- Exposure to hot and cold temperatures and cleaning supplies.
- Work involves about 10% sitting, 25% walking, and 65% standing.
Minimum qualifications include:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be willing to meet the Minnesota Department of Education School Nutrition Program training.
- One (1) year of experience in food service preparation, cooking, and operations in a commercial kitchen is a plus.
