Description

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Pediatrics, is recruiting an interventional cardiologist to the faculty in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at UT Southwestern and Children's Health.

The candidate will be expected to add to the growth of a well-established pediatric cardiac catheterization and intervention program in a well-established Heart Center, which is routinely ranked by USNWR among the best in the nation - all within the vibrant and growing UT Southwestern Medical Center, also routinely considered among the nation's finest. The laboratory conducts greater than 850 cases/year, with 80% being interventional cases. Besides the typical interventional cases, we have growing programs in transcatheter heart failure support, PDA stenting, premature baby ductal closures, iCMR/MRI guided cardiac catheterization, lymphatic evaluation/occlusion and valve implantation (including participation in multiple multi-institutional research trials). Our laboratory has been involved in most of the major clinical device trials over the past 20 years.

The missions of the UT Southwestern Pediatric Cardiology Division are to deliver excellent, high quality/high value care to children today, to advance the field of pediatric cardiology through research and innovation, and to educate future physicians and researchers in the care of children with cardiac and cardiovascular disorders. The Division is among the largest in the nation with 60 faculty members who drive forward well-developed clinical and scholarly programs in interventional catheterization and electrophysiology; fetal cardiology, and management of congenital heart disease from infancy to adulthood; heart failure, cardiac transplantation, and cardiovascular disease prevention; critical care medicine; cardiac imaging by echo, CT, and MR; and application of AI tools in numerous aspects of patient care. Expertise in the Division is complemented by multidisciplinary experts from UT Southwestern Pediatric Group physicians in Critical Care Medicine, Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery, Cardiac Anesthesia, Diagnostic Radiology, and Cardiovascular Genetics.

The primary site of clinical care is Children's Health Dallas, one of the nation's largest children's hospitals; there are 3 catheterization laboratories on the Dallas campus. With a 22-bed telemetry acute care cardiology unit, a 32-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, a 1.5T cardiac MRI facility (plus 0.55 T Cardiac MRI/ICMR suite to be completed in 2026), and approximately 12,000 clinic visits/year, the Pediatric Cardiology faculty have resources sufficient to meet present and future needs of children across the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, with a population of more than 7,000,000 and growing. In addition, there is a catheterization laboratory at our Children's Health Plano hospital with telemetry capabilities for 74 beds, a 12 bed ICU and a robust ambulatory cardiology program.

The Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern has a long and rich history that is interwoven with the roots of Southwestern Medical School and with the development and growth of Children's Health, our primary clinical partner. The Department is structured into 17 academic divisions, consisting of approximately 300 faculty members, and several clinical multidisciplinary programs that represent the full disciplinary diversity of pediatric medicine today. The major practice sites include Children's Health Dallas and Children's Health Plano, members of the Children's Health system and our primary pediatric clinical partners; Parkland Health & Hospital System; Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children; and our most recent partner, Texas Health Resources.

Qualifications

Applicants must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Texas and be board-eligible or board-certified in pediatric cardiology and will have completed a fellowship in interventional pediatric cardiology.

Preferred candidates will have previous experience in interventional cardiology, a strong interest in research and innovation, and a demonstrated commitment to training both categorical fellows and advanced fourth-year trainees. Expertise or a focused interest in pulmonary vein, lymphatic interventions or ICMR/MR guided cardiac catheterization is considered a plus.
