Referral Specialist

Overview We are seeking a Referral Specialist in Southeast, OH. Integrated Services for Behavioral Health (ISBH) is a community‑minded, forward‑thinking behavioral health organization helping people along the road to health and well‑being. We meet people in their homes and communities and help connect them to the resources they need. We serve Southeast and Central Ohio with a comprehensive array of behavioral health and other services – working with local partners to promote healthy people and strong communities. All of our services are intended to be collaborative and personalized for the individual. The Referral Specialist will be responsible for efficiently managing all incoming referrals to ensure clients have timely access to behavioral health services. This role performs detailed data entry within the electronic health record system, verifies insurance coverage, schedules intake appointments, and communicates effectively with clients, providers, and internal teams. The Referral Specialist plays a key role in supporting continuity of care by tracking referral outcomes, returning calls promptly, and ensuring that clients are connected with appropriate services based on their needs, insurance, and location. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to navigate multiple software systems in a fast‑paced, hybrid work environment. Pay $22.93 – $25.38 based on experience, education, and/or licensure. Essential Functions Process incoming referrals efficiently and accurately in the electronic health record system Perform detailed data entry, including demographics, contact information, referral details, emergency contacts, and payer information Schedule intake appointments based on staff availability and client needs Verify insurance coverage at the time of intake and prior to scheduled appointments Maintain an up‑to‑date understanding of internal referral processes and county‑based service pathways Respond to phone calls with professionalism and empathy, directing inquiries or taking messages as appropriate Answer the referral phone line and promptly return voicemails Collaborate with intake and access staff to ensure referral loop closure and continuity of care Track referral outcomes and follow up to ensure continuity of care Communicate effectively with clients to explain referral processes, provide support, and reduce barriers to accessing care Assess client needs and identify appropriate behavioral health providers based on insurance coverage, geographic location, and specialty needs Travel within the designated service area Perform other duties as assigned Minimum Requirements Education / Licensure High school degree or GED equivalent is required Experience Three years of experience working in a medical referral position and/or nonprofit administrative management environment required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are required Excellent organizational skills are required Ability to use appropriate databases, spreadsheets, and other software Ability to bill Medicaid without restrictions is required A valid driver's license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle is required An appropriate level of auto insurance coverage is required Ability to manage deadlines within a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment is required Ability to operate in an Internet‑based, automated office environment is required Ability to maintain a high‑speed internet connection is required Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer are required Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times is required Benefits Medical Dental Vision Short‑term Disability Long‑term Disability 401(k) with employer match Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides support and resources to help you and your family with a range of issues We’re an equal‑opportunity employer.
