EHSO Environmental Health and Safety Officer

The purpose of this position is to analyze workplace hazards and maintain a safe environment for patients, clients, visitors and staff.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate with the Environment of Care team to promote and provide safety expertise through the development and presentation of safety training materials.
  • Design, develop, promote, and conduct safety and environmental training & awareness programs under the supervision of the Vice President of Safety and Chief Finance Officer.
  • Conduct work area assessments, surveys, inspections, and program evaluations to determine the presence of hazardous conditions.
  • Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.
  • Collect, analyze, evaluate, and maintain data essential for effective safety and environmental programs.
  • Perform or assist with accident investigations as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of facilities, including mechanical design, the type of services offered at the site, and the geography of the area.
  • Participate in construction or pre-construction meetings with the V.P. of Safety.
  • Complete all Core Curriculum training(s) required for this position.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Risk Management, or a related field is required; a Master's degree is desirable, or previous experience in the job-related duties.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before staff within the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to understand and demonstrate Aunt Martha's 5-step Performance Improvement process, utilizing the methodology Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA).
  • Ability to use technical skills and apply the knowledge necessary for this position. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Have an understanding of federal, state and local laws, codes and ordinances that apply to the position.
  • Be knowledgeable about and follow Aunt Martha's safety policies and procedures.
