General Manager

Mark’s Outdoors is a well-established outdoor retailer specializing in hunting, fishing, firearms, archery, and related gear. We are seeking an experienced General Manager to lead day‑to‑day floor operations, the store team, and department‑level financial performance. This is a hands‑on leadership role focused on running a strong, well‑organized sales floor, managing a team of approximately 30 associates, maintaining excellent inventory control, and owning department P&L results. Key Responsibilities Lead and oversee all sales floor operations, ensuring a clean, well‑merchandised, and customer‑ready store at all times. Directly manage a team of approximately 30 employees, including hiring support, coaching, performance management, and scheduling. Create and manage weekly schedules that cover peak periods while controlling labor costs. Own department P&L performance, including sales goals, gross margin, labor as a percentage of sales, inventory turns, and shrink control for assigned departments. Drive sales performance, margin improvement, and customer service standards on the floor. Maintain strong inventory control practices, including receiving, stock accuracy, cycle counts, and ensuring product is properly displayed and available. Monitor and manage department‑level expenses and productivity metrics, taking corrective action to protect profitability. Ensure the store operates smoothly during all business hours, addressing customer issues, associate needs, and operational problems in real time. Uphold store standards for safety, compliance, and professional appearance. Partner with ownership on operational and financial priorities and provide regular updates on floor performance, department P&L results, staffing, and inventory conditions. Support a positive, high‑accountability team culture focused on service and results. Qualifications Required Proven retail management experience with responsibility for at least 30 direct reports. Strong track record in inventory control, floor operations, and department or store‑level P&L management. Demonstrated ability to manage scheduling, coaching, team performance, and financial metrics in a multi‑person retail environment. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Availability to work weekends and a flexible 40–50 hour schedule. Preferred Experience in outdoor, hunting, fishing, or firearms retail. Familiarity with firearms retail compliance and customer service best practices. Prior experience in a specialty or destination retail environment with department P&L accountability.
