Maintenance Technician

Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial/ Maintenance General Date Posted: 9/18/2026 The Maintenance Technician is responsible for all aspects of the repairs and maintenance of mechanical, air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing and heating systems. They properly operate, monitor, maintain, troubleshoot and repair boilers, chillers and other components for heating and cooling systems. The Maintenance Technician performs routine and preventive maintenance as needed for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing functionality of HVAC systems. They perform electrical, plumbing, and general repairs and maintenance. Position Type: Maintenance Location: District Wide Salary Per Contract: $24.37 - $26.12 per hour + $1.00 per hour for Boilers License + $0.90 per hour for Journeyman or higher certification in appropriate skilled trade. Reports To : Supervisor of Maintenance Status : 2026/27 school year Start Date: As Soon As Possible Hours: 6:00 a.m - 2:30 p.m. Monday - Friday (52 weeks per year) Date Posted: 9/18/2026 QUALIFICATIONS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Must be able to follow written/verbal directions from the Supervisor of Maintenance (or designee in his/her absence) where applicable Must demonstrate exemplary attendance Must demonstrate a working knowledge of steam and hot water boilers, rooftop heating and A/C units, hot air furnaces, domestic water heaters and related heating systems Must demonstrate a working knowledge of air conditioning and refrigeration systems including chillers and chilled water systems Must demonstrate ability to operate a computer including email, Word, Excel, and a work order system such as School Dude Must demonstrate the skills necessary to do repair work such as plumbing and electrical repairs, minor building repairs and adjustments Must demonstrate successful operations of a preventive maintenance program for mechanical systems Demonstrate ability to operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot building automation systems Must have pleasant and courteous and be able to relate well to students, staff members, other school employees, and all groups using the building Must be able to maintain composure in emergency situations Ability to perform physical tasks required by this position including the ability to lift heavy objects, ability to climb a ladder and work at heights up to 50 feet and ability to work outdoors in hot and/or cold conditions Applicants may be required to take an objective skills test to show abilities related to this position Must be a self-starter with good communication and organizational skills Must be able to adapt to new technology and department procedures / Best Practices DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (including, but not limited to) Directly responsible to the Supervisor of Maintenance Performs routine and preventive maintenance as needed for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing functionality of HVAC systems Responsible for all aspects of the repairs and maintenance of mechanical, air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing and heating systems Properly operate, monitor, maintain, troubleshoot building mechanical systems including plumbing and electrical to provide adequate customer comfort Must be familiar with energy management systems Perform plumbing repairs and maintenance Perform electrical repairs and maintenance Maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for mechanical, ventilation, A/C, refrigeration, plumbing and electrical systems to ensure safe and proper operation of equipment in cooperation with the Supervisor of Maintenance Monitor and prioritize assigned work Maintain records and document repairs on work request forms Maintain all safety and code requirements Shall perform the assigned tasks in a timely manner and shall work in a manner consistent with safety of self and others at all times Shall work until the job is completed and be willing to work overtime hours should conditions arise which require this Must be able to respond to emergency situations during or after hours Must be able to pass a pulmonary function test in order to be fitted for a full face respirator Assist in training of working leaders and foreman on proper maintenance tasks and procedures Shall maintain, in good condition, the vehicle, tools and equipment assigned to the position. Request equipment and supplies necessary to complete installation and/or repairs in a timely manner Communicate to supervisor, principal, and building personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations Must wear district uniform (appropriate for all weather conditions) and demonstrate the ability to perform work in a multitude of conditions, locations and environments including outdoor climates Must annually complete all required safety training Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Maintenance (or designee in his/her absence). Working Conditions The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that a custodian encounters while performing essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors, including both hot and cold weather. The employee will be expected to climb and work from ladders and/or personnel lift as necessary. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Working on call as needed at any time for emergency repairs, overtime, or special needs falling outside the normal work hours can be expected. There is a high probability that contact with blood‑borne materials will occur within daily duties. All duties and procedures are to be performed within health safety standards as established by local and state OSHA and school district emergency procedures. The employee will sometimes push or pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines, etc. This job requires close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
