- Terminate and test fiber optic and copper cable assemblies that support shipboard power, communication, telephone, and alarm systems.
- Troubleshoot and test fiber and copper cables and circuits to identify, isolate, and correct faults.
- Read and interpret drawings, specifications, technical manuals, design notices, and other technical documentation to perform accurate installations.

- Install and terminate military circular connectors, panel boxes, power terminations, and related electrical components.
- Work from customer drawings and instructions with keen attention to detail and minimal supervision.
- Communicate effectively in written and verbal form with supervisors, project leads, and team members.
- Collaborate with field service operations and project leads to meet project schedules and quality requirements.
- Travel as needed and work overtime, including weekends, to support shipboard projects and field assignments.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience as a Marine Electrician working in ship repair onboard U.S. Navy ships (technical education may substitute for a portion of the experience requirement).
- Demonstrated ability to perform shipboard or airframe electrician duties with minimal supervision or guidance.
- Proficiency in installing, terminating, and testing fiber optic and copper cable assemblies for shipboard systems.
- Previous experience and certification with multi-pin copper connectors.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, technical manuals, and design notices.
- Skilled in using electrical trade tools such as multimeters, pin crimpers, and soldering equipment.
- Experience with installation of military circular connectors, panel boxes, and power terminations.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with basic computer skills and MS Office applications, including Word and Excel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience installing and testing fiber optic systems is preferred; in-house training and certification are available.
- Prior service in the U.S. Navy as an Electronics Technician (ET), Information Systems Technician (IC), Aviation Maintenance (AT), or Electrician’s Mate (EM) is ideal.
- Experienced in maintaining and repairing radar, communication, navigation, and internal communication systems is beneficial.
- Experience with aircraft maintenance and readiness, including electrical and electronic systems, is advantageous.
- Experience with shipboard power generation and distribution systems is beneficial.
- Ability and willingness to travel and work overtime, including weekends, to support field projects.
Why Work Here?
- You will work in a specialized maritime environment where your technical expertise directly supports critical naval operations. The organization offers structured training and in-house certification opportunities, particularly in fiber optic installation and testing, allowing you to expand and formalize your skills. You will collaborate with experienced professionals from both military and commercial backgrounds, gaining exposure to complex shipboard systems and diverse projects. The role provides opportunities for career growth across multiple skill levels, from 1st to 3rd Class technicians, and offers varied assignments that keep the work engaging and technically challenging.
Work Environment
- Work takes place onboard U.S. Navy ships and at major naval and shipyard facilities, including locations such as NBSD, NASNI (Coronado), CMSD, NASSCO, Austal, and BAE. The environment is primarily shipboard and industrial, involving work in confined spaces, on ladders, and in areas with active shipyard operations. Technicians use a range of electrical and electronic tools, including multimeters, pin crimpers, soldering equipment, and computer-based test and documentation systems. Standard working hours may extend into overtime, including evenings and weekends, based on project needs, and the role requires flexibility to travel and remain on assignment for extended periods.
