Analyst I (Microbiology)- Environment Testing, Chesapeake VA

Job Description Eurofins Environment Testing is searching for a Microbiology Analyst in Chesapeake, VA. Must live a commutable distance to the laboratory. Compensation based on experience. $18-22/hour Schedule and Hours Schedule – Monday‑Friday 10:00 am‑6:00 pm. This is a full‑time position. Role Overview The Microbiology Analyst I prepares and analyzes environmental water samples using standard analytical techniques according to scientific and EPA methodology in compliance with Eurofins Environment Testing Philadelphia, LLC’s Quality Assurance programs and SOPs. Responsibilities Applies GMP/GLP in all areas of responsibility, as appropriate Demonstrates and promotes the company vision Regular attendance and punctuality Perform basic micro lab techniques/analyses and prepare media/cultures, based on job function Contribute to a small team of analysts using bacterial test systems (e.g. Total Coliform testing, E. coli testing, Total Plate Counts, MPNs, and Wastewater testing) Assist in writing, reviewing and editing reports, protocols and SOPs Train other staff members Efficiently carry out procedures necessary to complete each analysis with minimal supervision Meticulously maintain precise records of all analyses in accordance with good laboratory practice Culture and enumerate infectious bacterial pathogens using routine microbiological techniques Enter data into LIMS computer system Maintain/calibrate equipment (incubators, water baths, refrigerators, etc.) Prepare and wash glassware Perform other duties as assigned (Wet Chemistry, Sample Login, Courier, etc.) Receive and unload incoming samples or consignments in accordance with DOT regulations and verify receipt against Chain of Custody (COC), match it to the corresponding quote and note discrepancies daily. Verify that COCs are accurate, complete, and correct and seek resolution for those that are not Log samples into Lab Management System daily to assign a lot number for tracking purposes and distribute paperwork to Project Managers Label samples so they may be identified by the lot number, assign them and deliver samples to appropriate labs for analysis daily Prepare bottle kits daily to be shipped to clients to collect samples and return for analysis in accordance with established procedures including EPA and DOT requirements Forward samples to other laboratories in accordance with DOT regulations as needed to run tests that are not performed at that location Dispose of spent samples, waste and other potentially hazardous materials in accordance with established procedures Monitor freezer and cooler temperatures daily to confirm that the readings are within SOP guidelines Clean and organize the departments/labs daily to promote a clean, safe work environment and smoother flow of daily operations Maintain and promote safety and conduct all operations in a safe and environmentally compliant manner Stock and supply inventory daily and assist with inventory of supplies to maintain proper quantity of materials to perform tasks appropriately Perform splits and composites as needed upon request May perform courier duties as necessitated to support lab and client needs Will be compliant with all driver procedures, certification, and Company driver policies Must be willing to be on‑call during non‑business hours in order to perform non‑routine sampling, delivery, setup of analyses, and readback of tests Assist in maintenance of walk‑in coolers to facilitate locating samples Ship empty coolers back to clients and other Eurofins Laboratories. Log all outgoing coolers in order to maintain a detailed inventory of all coolers Maintain all company vehicles for sample pickups and deliveries as needed Conduct all client interaction in an appropriate and professional manner Bottle order prep duties Other job duties as determined by local management Ideal Candidate Qualities Computers, word processing software and database software Experience with Microbiological Laboratory and testing procedures General mathematics Basic composition, spelling, grammar, punctuation Strong work ethic, organized work and pay attention to detail Computers and basic office equipment Computerized shipping systems Personal protective equipment Strong computer, scientific and organizational skills Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self‑motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions and comply with company policies Qualifications Biological degree preferred with or a minimum of 4 credit hours of Microbiology May drive for long periods Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship Ability to lift 50 lbs Professional working proficiency in English is a requirement, including the ability to read, write and speak in English Perform other duties as assigned Additional Information All offers of employment are contingent upon a successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
