Must-Have: Pass/Fail exam on skills learned during orientation. Must receive a 90% to pass the exam. Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care. Driver's license required to determine eligibility within radius. Strong candidates without travel experience may be considered. No license or background issues allowed.

Description: The department provides care for med/surg tele patients, including those with stable neurological deficits and post-neurosurgery procedures. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6. Common diagnoses include joint replacements, fractures, COPD exacerbations, and pneumonia. Nurses are required to titrate heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips. PCA pumps are commonly utilized. A charge nurse is present on each shift, but the charge nurse will also take on patient assignments. Patient care technicians assist with patient needs, with a ratio of 1:10-20. Telemetry technicians are available to interpret strips, though RNs should have some awareness of telemetry. Shifts include 0630-1900 and 1830-0700. Nurses will be scheduled and a limited amount of block scheduling may be approved. Weekend work is required every other weekend, with additional shifts possible based on needs. Holiday work is required for 2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Year's. Floating to other medical-surgical areas may be necessary based on patient census. Scrub color is navy blue for RNs. The unit focuses on hourly rounding and responsiveness. Mechanical lifts are located in every other room. A successful nurse on this unit is attentive to patient care, manages daily responsibilities effectively, and works well in a team. Patients from diverse backgrounds are served on this unit. Cancellation of shifts may occur based on unit needs. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN degree is not required. This is an acute care setting with a trauma level designation.
