Requirements:

Education:
  • Graduate from an academic program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), Council on Occupational Education (COE), or other equivalent organization.
Experience:
  • One year of experience within the last two years as a MRI Technologist.
Certifications:
  • BLS
  • ARRT in MRI
Letter's of Recommendation:
  • Provide two (2) letters of recommendation written within the last two (2) years attesting to the HCW's clinical skills. One letter must be from a practicing radiologist or supervisory technologist who has personally observed and evaluated the HCW and who can attest to the HCW's clinical skills in the care of patients. The other letter may be from a clinic or hospital administrator, physician, nurse, or peer technologist who has personal knowledge of the HCW's patient care skills in a similar clinical environment.

General Contracted Personnel Duties: Contracted personnel shall perform a full range of duties consistent with their labor category, education, training, experience, clinical privileges (as applicable), and assigned position. General duties that apply to all personnel or across certain labor categories are given below.

A. Maintain a level of productivity comparable with that of other individuals performing similar services.


B. Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.

C. Practice aseptic techniques as necessary. Comply with infection control guidelines to include the proper handling, storage, and disposal of infectious wastes, and the use of universal precautions to prevent the spread of infection.


D. Function with an awareness and application of safety procedures.

E. Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events. Anticipate potential problems/emergencies and make appropriate interventions. Notify supervisor, director, or other designated person regarding problems that the contracted personnel is unable to manage.

F. Apply an awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and strive to manage situations in a reduced risk manner.

G. Participate in the implementation of the Family Advocacy Program as directed. Participation shall include, but not be limited to, appropriate medical examination, documentation, and reporting.

H. Exercise awareness and sensitivity to patient/significant others' rights, as identified within the MTF.

I. Maintain an awareness of responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.

J. Participate in continuing education to meet own professional growth.

K. Attend and/or comply with all annual training classes required by the MTF, to include but not limited to online annual training provided by the MTF: disaster training, infection control, Sexual Harassment, Blood-borne Pathogens, Fire and Safety, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE), MHS Genesis, and all other required training.

L. Actively participate in the MTF's Performance Improvement Program. Participate in meetings to review and evaluate the care provided to patients, identify opportunities to improve the care delivered, and recommend corrective action when problems exist.

M. Participate in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members. Provide training and/or clinical direction as applicable to supporting government employees (e.g., hospital corpsmen, students, etc.).

N. Attend and participate in various meetings as directed.

O. Perform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient care (to include all tasks and documentation related to patient encounter in accordance with DHA and MTF policies).

P. Operate and manipulate automated systems such as ADS, Essentris, MHS Genesis, and Clinical Information System (CIS), participate in clinical staff Performance Improvement (PI) and Risk Management (RM) functions, as prescribed by the MTF Director. Maintain DOD email account as directed. The contracted personnel shall be responsive to all email and voicemail communications.

Q. Exercise appropriate clinical delegation of tasks and duties in the clinical direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and clinic activities.

R. Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with clinic directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required. All records and reports must be legible. Abbreviations must be only those listed in local instructions.

Legal Authorization to Work in the United States: The contract worker performing under this contract must be a U.S. Citizen.

Labor Category: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist

Education: Graduate from an academic program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), Council on Occupational Education (COE), or other equivalent organization.

Experience: One year of experience within the last two years as a MRI Technologist.

Certifications:

BLS

ARRT in MRI

Additional Requirements: Provide two (2) letters of recommendation written within the last two (2) years attesting to the HCW's clinical skills. One letter must be from a practicing radiologist or supervisory technologist who has personally observed and evaluated the HCW and who can attest to the HCW's clinical skills in the care of patients. The other letter may be from a clinic or hospital administrator, physician, nurse, or peer technologist who has personal knowledge of the HCW's patient care skills in a similar clinical environment. Reference letters shall attest to the HCW's communication skills and ability to relate to patients as well as professional and other interpersonal skills among staff members and must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and signature of the individual providing reference.

Specific Duties: The HCW shall provide services within the scope of their competencies, the applicable duties provided in the basic contract, and the following:

a. Ability to perform exams on all brands and models MRI scanners.

b. Assist in reviewing and entering radiologist's protocols for MRI patient exam orders in the radiology information system (MHS Genesis RadNet and related software) on a continual basis.

c. Verify and identify patient and procedure information in accordance with command policy. To include performing a Time Out and Final Stop before entering MRI Zone 4.

d. Evaluate patients for contrast compatibility: GFR (Globular Filtration Rate), allergy history, contrast contraindications. Respond to contrast reactions in accordance with American College of Radiology (ACR) and Joint Commission Requirements. Respond to all emergencies in the MR environment in accordance with ACR and Joint Commission Requirements. Communicate with physicians, staff, and document all information related to emergencies.

e. Review MRI safety screening and information to assess patient safety. Perform research/investigation pertaining to MRI safety on patients with implanted medical devices and document safety information. Document implant information for the Magnetic Resonance Safety Officer (MRSO) and the Magnetic Resonance Medical Director (MRMD) to evaluate for patient safety approval.

f. Screen patients utilizing the ferromagnetic detector system per manufacturer and department protocol.

g. Explain and prepare the patient for procedure to be performed, answer any relevant questions. Provide for physical and emotional (claustrophobia) comfort of the patient to ensure patient position for exam to be performed and cooperation. Ensure proper placement for patients with special needs appropriately for optimal patient safety. Ensure patients with special needs have an effective means of communication with techs.

h. Log arrival and departure of patients in the command's hospital information system (MHS Genesis) and in the scanner logbooks. Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading via the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) according to department protocol.

i. Perform a full range of MRI scans:

Brain- brain, orbits, pituitary, cranial nerves, IAC, trauma, per radiologist

Brain MRA/MRV, sinus thrombosis, carotids, per radiologist

Body- liver, kidney, pancreas, screening, per radiologist

Body MRA/MRV

Breast- screening, biopsies, per radiologist

Cardiac- morphology and/or function, stress, per radiologist

Neck- soft tissue, per radiologist

Chest- mediastinum, brachial plexus, per radiologist

Pelvis- boney, female UFE, prostate, per radiologist

Upper extremity- hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, humerus, shoulder, arthrograms, per radiologist

Lower extremity- foot, ankle lower leg, knee, femur, hip, arthrograms, per radiologist

Extremity MRA/MRV- Runoff, prescribed by radiologist protocol

Multiplanar and 3D volume reconstructions and/ renderings- designate by radiologist protocol

Perfusion- brain, per radiologist

Spectroscopy- Single and multi-voxel per radiologist protocol

j. Select the proper coil and equipment for the body part that is being examined.

k. Properly position and pad the patient in the scanner to prevent thermal burns.

l. Require to start IVs (Intravenous therapy) for contrast administration or in support of the nursing or anesthesia staff.

m. Provide support for anesthesia, including safety screening staff and equipment, operation and placement of monitoring equipment and infusion pumps. Coordinate and perform sedation MRIs with anesthesiology and other relevant services.

n. Discuss the technical and clinical aspects of the patient's care as related to the patient's MRI scan with the diagnostic radiologists, attending physicians, attending nurses or senior MRI technologist.

o. Review all images, send appropriate image series, and check PACs for each exam to ensure ALL images transmit from the scanner to the radiologist for reading according to department policy. Before deletion of exam, ensure all images have been transmitted as appropriate.

p. Perform daily checks of the crash cart, and monthly checks of emergency contrast reaction kits and restroom emergency call bells. Maintain the crash cart in the MRI spaces in accordance with hospital policy and Joint Commission Requirements. Maintain a contrast reaction kit in the MRI spaces. Ensure completion of quarterly Code Blue drill in accordance with MTF policy.

q. Perform system calibrations and quality control tasks according to manufacturer and command instructions. Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated Government personnel of outlying values. Perform minor troubleshooting of the MRI scanner per manufacturer's recommendation and established protocols. Perform minor troubleshooting of the MRI scanner per manufacturer recommendations for technologists and established protocols.

r. Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify the designated government personnel of equipment issues.

s. Initiate repair call procedures for equipment malfunctions by notifying designated Government personnel. Report problems to the Biomedical Repair Section and record the problem condition in the trouble call logbook. Report problems to Department Qualified Medical Physicists.

t. Maintain MRI suite including stocking supplies, cleaning, restocking/inventorying supplies, taking out linen per shift, and taking sharps containers to Biohazard room as needed. Participate in the radiology department's rotation for pick up and drop off of both.

u. Participate in all mandatory MRI Safety Training or education issued by the MRI Medical Director (MR MD).

v. Update protocols on MRI scanners in accordance with radiologists; ensure protocols are standardized across all MRI scanners

w. Perform QC (quality control) and other quality control tasks in accordance with ACR and Joint Commission requirements

x. Perform and document transitions of care and other shift change huddles/meetings at the beginning and end of shift in accordance with MTF and Joint Commission requirements.
