Senior Protection & Control Engineer

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.\n3-5+ years of substation engineering/design experience, with Mid/Senior-level candidates preferred.\nHands-on Protection & Control experience, including settings and engineering studies.\nExperience developing circuits, substation layouts, and design markups.\nAbility to create a preliminary layout or engineering markup and clearly communicate the design to a CAD/design technician for final drafting.\nExperience supporting projects ranging from approximately 120 kV through 760 kV.\nPrevious experience working with or supporting electric utilities or power distribution/transmission organizations.\nProficiency with Bluebeam or similar remote engineering/design collaboration software.\nExperience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.\nStrong understanding of applicable utility engineering, construction, safety, QA/QC, and documentation standards.\nStrong communication skills and ability to coordinate effectively across engineering and construction teams.

Job Description

Perform preliminary and detailed engineering design for substation and P&C projects.\nDevelop and review protection and control schemes, relay settings, and engineering studies.\nPerform engineering calculations and technical studies to ensure safe, reliable system performance.\nDevelop preliminary layouts, circuits, design markups, and technical direction for CAD/design technicians.\nPrepare equipment specifications and support proposal evaluations, equipment selection, and requisitioning.\nDevelop project estimates, schedules, and budgetary information.\nCoordinate engineering design and equipment delivery with construction schedules.\nReview engineering drawings and completed designs for accuracy, quality, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.\nObtain and evaluate field measurements and site data needed to support engineering design.\nProvide construction support and monitor work for compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, codes, and standards.\nSupport equipment/material inspections, testing activities, and contractor invoice evaluations as needed.\nPerform complex engineering studies, feasibility assessments, and economic analyses of engineering alternatives.\nServe as Project Engineer on projects of moderate size and complexity when required.\nCoordinate across engineering disciplines, project management, construction teams, vendors, and other project stakeholders.\nMaintain accurate project documentation and follow applicable QA/QC, safety, and document-control requirements.\nApply appropriate industry standards, including ANSI/IEEE, National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), and ASTM standards.\nSupport the technical development and mentoring of junior engineering personnel as needed.
