Middle School Guidance Counselor

Job Title
Position Description Provides a continuum of individual student planning, school counseling core curriculum, and behavioral health services, including data-driven prevention and intervention strategies for ensuring equitable access to resources and promoting academic achievement, social/emotional and career development to enhance student success for college and career readiness. Participate in professional learning.

Essential Functions:
- Adhere to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility
- Ensures the safety of students
- Implements the Windham Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations, and directives
- Manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment
- Prepares lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners in the classroom
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required
- Attends parent/teacher conferences
- Assess student learning continually and identify areas of intervention if needed
- Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Windham Board of Education
- Maintains respect for confidential information
- Keeps parents up-to-date on student progress through the use of interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences
- Design instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed
- Design clear and specific learning assessments
- Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between teachers and learners
- Maintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents
- Other duties as assigned by Administrator and/or Superintendent
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other educational materials
- Establish and maintain professional relationships
- Participate in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement
Qualifications/Certificates:
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
- Active subject matter certificate as required by the Connecticut State Department of Education
- Csde Certification(s): 066, 067, 068
- Experience working with a diverse student demographic

Days: Monday Friday
Salary: In accordance with the WFT contract
