About The NICU The Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Cincinnati Children’s is one of the largest and most advanced Level IV neonatal intensive care units in the United States—and the only Level IV NICU in Greater Cincinnati. In addition to caring for the most critically ill newborns in our Level IV unit, our team also provides expert neonatal care at affiliated local Level III nurseries. This integrated model offers our providers the unique opportunity to work across multiple levels of acuity, gaining broad clinical exposure while delivering high-quality care to newborns throughout the region. Our multidisciplinary team collaborates closely with subspecialists in cardiology, fetal and neonatal surgery, neurology, pulmonology, and urology to care for more than 700 infants each year. Role Overview Cincinnati Children’s is seeking a PRN Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) to join our highly specialized neonatal team. This role provides advanced clinical care to critically ill and medically complex newborns in the NICU and affiliated neonatal units. The PRN NNP will work collaboratively with neonatologists, fellows, residents, nurses, and multidisciplinary specialists to deliver comprehensive, family-centered care. Key Responsibilities Provide advanced practice care to neonates in a Level IV NICU and affiliated Level III nurseries Perform comprehensive neonatal assessments and develop evidence-based care plans Manage complex neonatal conditions including respiratory failure, congenital anomalies, prematurity, and surgical conditions Perform advanced neonatal procedures within scope of practice Collaborate with neonatologists, pediatric subspecialists, and multidisciplinary teams Participate in stabilization and management of critically ill neonates Provide education and support to families during hospitalization Contribute to quality improvement, clinical excellence, and evidence-based practice initiatives Team Environment Our Neonatal Nurse Practitioners play a vital role on an expert care team that includes: 100+ Advanced Practice Providers (APRNs/PAs) High-risk follow-up programs Specialized Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) teams Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) program Neonatal surgical subspecialty teams Minimum Qualifications Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program Current Neonatal Nurse Practitioner certification Eligibility for Ohio APRN licensure and prescriptive authority Neonatal clinical provider experience preferredAbility to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment Job Details Primary location: Burnet Campus. Schedule: Full time. Shift: Rotating. Department: APP CCHMC NICU. Employee status: Regular. FTE: 0.9. Weekly hours: 36. Expected starting pay range: $126,089.60 - $163,924.80. Job Responsibilities and Qualifications Patient Care—Perform history and/or physical exams on patients presenting for care in area of expertise. Assess and diagnose illnesses, including chronic and acute conditions. Formulate, document and monitor a treatment plan. Order and monitor therapeutic interventions as deemed necessary. Provide clinical consultation, order interdisciplinary consults. Professional practice including prescription of medications in accordance with Federal and State Law & Rules and CCHMC policy. Outcomes Identification and Planning—Develop measurable outcomes, prioritize, evaluate, and modify individualized comprehensive care plans. Incorporate new knowledge and strategies to initiate change in practice. Professional Practice—Maintain professional behaviors aligned with core values and care standards, participate in quality improvement activities or research to improve care delivery. Serve as preceptor, role model, or mentor; contribute to professional development. Advocate for the pediatric patient/family/caregiver. Care Management—Maintain competency in skills/procedures; promote family-centered care; lead to optimal quality, cost-effective care. Provide consultation and referral, order treatments and procedures based on current knowledge. Evaluation—Use systematic ongoing evaluation of assessment data and outcomes to revise or resolve diagnosis, outcomes, plan of care. Job Qualifications Masters degree in related field. Require clinical license, certification or training OR Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree. Experience as an APP in subspecialty. Licensure and certification in accordance with CCHMC Delineation of Privileges. Multi-state licensure in addition to Ohio licensure may be required based on subspecialty.
