Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 12-hour night shift travel contract at a hospital in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience and active TNCC certification.

Details

• Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
• Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
• Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma — heavy trauma population
• Cardiac experience preferred, including CABG/TAVR post-op (24–48 hrs); fresh open heart cases are not assigned to travelers unless specifically qualified
• Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3
• Charting system: Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter); Omnicell
• 12-hour night shifts at 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg/Tele at a 1:4 ratio

Requirements

• Active RN license — SD license or compact license recognized by the SD Board of Nursing required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
• Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
• Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry monitoring
• Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
• Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
• Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Minimum of one prior travel assignment required — first-time travelers will not be considered
• Permanent staff who have previously worked at this facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
• Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit, a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws, and ICU CRNs for midline placement
• Physician coverage includes 3 intensivists on days and 2 on nights, plus an APP on nights
• Travelers floated to the CVICU side only if experienced in that specialty
• Orientation includes hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation, one 4-hour iLearns session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts
• No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, with extensions required to fulfill the full contract
• May be expected to precept nursing students
